About the role

About Remedy

Remedy is a seed-stage startup committed to addressing the planet’s enormous challenge of environmentally contaminated land. Our mission is to build massively scalable, automated soil remediation solutions to return contaminated land to productive use. We do this by developing and deploying novel integrated chemical, hardware, and software systems that destroy harmful pollutants.

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and technically versatile Sensors Integration Lead to drive the development of our soil contaminant sensing systems. In this critical role, you will lead the investigation, development, integration, and productization of sensor technologies that detect and quantify environmental pollutants. These sensors will serve as a foundation for both our laboratory-scale experiments and scalable field-deployed systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the evaluation and selection of appropriate sensor modalities (chemical, optical, electrochemical, etc.) for soil contaminant detection

  • Develop and validate sensor systems for use in laboratory settings, supporting experimental workflows and analytical requirements

  • Translate laboratory sensor prototypes into robust, field-deployable sensor modules, integrating with real-time data acquisition and control systems

  • Design and implement calibration protocols to ensure sensor accuracy, repeatability, and long-term stability in variable environmental conditions

  • Collaborate closely with chemical, hardware, and software engineering teams to integrate sensors into full-stack remediation systems

  • Contribute to systems architecture decisions related to sensing, controls, data pipelines, and feedback loops

  • Establish and document testing methodologies, performance benchmarks, and QA protocols for sensor systems

  • Source and manage vendor relationships related to sensor components, calibration equipment, and integration tools

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Environmental Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field

  • Hands-on experience developing and integrating sensor systems, including data acquisition and signal processing

  • Demonstrated experience with one or more of the following: chemical sensors, gas or vapor sensors, soil moisture/nutrient sensors, optical spectroscopy, or environmental monitoring systems

  • Proven ability to take a sensor from evaluation through prototyping to field deployment

  • Proficiency with embedded systems, sensor interfacing, and control systems

  • Experience with sensor calibration, drift compensation, and environmental ruggedization

  • Strong systems thinking and ability to collaborate across disciplines (chemistry, software, hardware)

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to document and present technical findings effectively

Additional Consideration Given For:

  • Experience with environmental remediation, agricultural technology, or soil science

  • Familiarity with industrial automation systems or IoT sensor networks

  • Experience with machine learning models for sensor data processing and anomaly detection

  • Background in startup or fast-paced R&D environments

Skills

  • Embedded systems (Arduino, Raspberry Pi, STM32, or similar)

  • Signal processing and noise reduction techniques

  • Python, MATLAB, or similar environments for data analysis

  • PCB design and prototyping (Altium, KiCad, Eagle, etc.)

Team

  • This position reports to the Head of Hardware . It is a primarily in-office role based out of Remedy’s Alameda and Oakland, CA facilities, with some travel to remediation locations as needed.
