Summary

This is routine but responsible work involving the care and upkeep of Parking garages and equipment mechanism in field installations, the making of shop repairs, the preparation of equipment housing for installation job, the collection of parking equipment revenues, and the auditing of equipment for repair.  Employees also sweep and hose/wash down garage interior ramps and driving lanes.  In addition, open and restart elevators.  The work is performed under the supervision of the Supervisor of Structure and Equipment.

CITY RESIDENCY WILL BE REQUIRED WITHIN ONE YEAR OF HIRE.

Examples of duties

  • Clean, oil and lubricate equipment mechanisms in field installation and preventative maintenance;
  • Make minor field repairs such as replacing broken glass and replacing gate arms;
  • Install signs and signage;
  • Assist with removal of old equipment & install of new equipment;
  • Respond to complaints regarding broken, jammed meters and garage equipment;
  • Remove equipment mechanisms for shop repair and replace them with substitutes, renumber and stamp labels;
  • Install equipment housing on old and newly erected equipment pipes;
  • Perform bench repair, dismantling and clean jobs on site and in shop areas;
  • Collect revenues from locked vaults;
  • Open doors manually and reboot equipment in the event of elevator malfunctions;
  • Unplug drains and drain pipes in garages;
  • Remove snow from City garage sites and deice as required;
  • Garage building maintenance tasks relating to sweeping, hose down and power wash garages ramps and stair-towers;
  • Replace blown/old light bulbs in garages;
  • Be able to use a mechanical sweeper and paint stripper for car space marking;
  • Pull daily reports from software from computer/laptop as needed;
  • Perform certain garage miscellaneous tasks.

Qualifications

  1. High School diploma or Equivalent; plus:
  2. One (1) year of full time experience (or its part time equivalent) as a mechanic or machinist in the repair of small part mechanisms.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
NYS Class D driver License needed at time of appointment. This license must be maintained throughout employment in this title.
