Overview
General Purpose of Job:
The Divisional Music Director will work with the Divisional Program Department to implement and strengthen the Division's and, more importantly, the individual Corps units' music programs by spending time on the field during the week, through scheduled Sunday visits, and by becoming intimately aware of every Corps in the Command concerning the music programs and its current and potential leaders. This position will emphasize spiritual leadership, discipleship, and mentoring incorporated into all aspects of music rehearsals, instruction, and performance in the NEOSA division. In this position, you play a vital role in carrying out The Salvation Army’s mission.
Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES.
As the priority, work hard to see active Music programs, youth, and adults in every Corps in the NEOSA Division.
Incorporate and promote Christian values into the music programs. Help foster and create an atmosphere of community and/or encourage participation and involvement in the Christian faith.
Attend divisional events and give music support as needed.
Attend monthly Divisional Program Council committee meetings for reporting and planning purposes.
Teach Music Lessons at the Corps as determined by the Program Secretary. The expectation is to be in the Corps a minimum of 3 nights a week.
Identify and train leaders in Music leadership skills in Brass, Voice, Piano, Guitar, and Timbrels to be used locally at the Corps and for Divisional events.
The DMD is responsible for training the Assistant DMD in all areas of music leadership and administration.
The DMD will identify and mentor three musicians/leaders each year.
Assist Corps Officers in finding resources for music programs, including funding, instruments, program resources, leaders, and participants
Communicate events in a timely, attractive, and efficient to the division, corps, members of bands/ensembles, and a general emailing list. Send updates for the DHQ website, social media, and periodical newsletters.
Organize and execute the Music Divisional
Work with the ADMD, Creative Arts Director, and other Program Department staff (including the Youth Department) to plan and execute the Divisional Music and Arts Camp and Divisional Music
Organize, plan, and execute the Divisional Star Search event and the Divisional representation at the Territorial Star Search event.
Coordinate the participation of NEOSA youth musicians in territorial initiatives, such as (but not limited to) Star Lake Music Camp, ETS Singing Stars, Future All Stars, and Star Search. Attendance may be required.
Oversee and coordinate the divisional music ensembles, working to maintain the highest standards. This encompasses: 1. NEOSA Brass, Singers, and Timbrelists; 2. NEOSA Youth Band, Chorus, and Timbrelists under the supervision of the Assistant Divisional Music Director; 3. Regional Music Schools, and the NEOSA Prep Program. This will include working as a team with the Creative Arts Director under the supervision of the Program Secretary and working with the Assistant DMD and Executive Officer on programs, trips, membership, and other band-related matters.
Under the guidance of the Program Secretary, conduct the business affairs of the Music Department efficiently and carefully, keeping budgetary and other limitations in mind. Maintains the Divisional Music library and instrument inventory.
Connect with Kroc Music Ministry, coordinating and communicating with Kroc leaders, Kroc corps officers, and Kroc Music leader to continue building this relationship with the division.
Attend conferences and other events as requested and approved by the Divisional Program Secretary Leadership and Divisional Leadership
Assist the Development department with proposals for grants to sustain the purchase or fixing of new instruments, a piano subsidy program, summer leadership training/conservatories, and the development of collaborations.
Stay current with and implement Keep Safe training and policy and adhere to it in all areas of the job description.
To participate and lead prayer. Teach/instruct in religious principles and be responsible for faith formation. To model and reflect Christian behavior.
