Your Responsibilities

 

As a Senior Test Engineer for John Deere Des Moines Works, located in Ankeny, IA, you will...

 

  • Act as a technical leader for test engineering functions at local and division levels. 
  • You will develop and/or maintain expert level understanding of test methods and data acquisition systems through cooperative effort at the facility and within the enterprise. 
  • You will apply this knowledge to assigned activities, and actively support and advise other team members.
  • Engage Product Engineering, others test engineers, and experimental shop technicians in development of detailed test plans and execution of complex activities such as engine qualification, structural evaluation, lab durability, and vehicle field testing
  • Lead the cotton experimental shop priority meeting, responsible for leading work-plan development and daily shop floor execution of engineering / test priorities
  • Develop and maintain expert understanding of data acquisition methods including eDaq, MGDL (MTG) and CSM module systems
  • Lead and guide in the Design, Development, Procurement and Implementation of lab test-stands which allow for verification of a component or system per established goals
  • Develop creative and effective methods to analyze and present available data to Product Engineering, Marketing, Quality, and other stakeholders for machine productivity and performance reports, etc.
  • Participate and lead in field testing and data acquisition of cotton equipment.

What Skills You Need

 

  • 4 or more years of experience within a Product Verification & Validation test engineering role, with focus on off-road equipment development
  • Demonstrated technical skills to collect, analyze, and verify data, driving to conclusions and presenting complex information to a variety of audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to assess complex engineering projects and then plan, coordinate, and execute activities required to meet the goals (examples include on-vehicle engine qualification, full machine stress tests, remote data logging, and/or field performance evaluation)
  • Knowledge collecting, analyzing, processing, and summarizing large data sets for use in business decisions
  • A history of influencing without authority in order to maintain project schedules and attain goals
  • Fundamental understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic systems.
  • Sound understanding of engineering principles with the ability to independently apply the knowledge and teach others
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally, up to 25% to perform duties.

  • Expert analytical and technical skills related to test engineering with the ability to teach others
  • In-depth knowledge and experience collecting, analyzing, processing, and summarizing large data sets for use in business decisions
  • Demonstrated expert technical test aptitude within at least three of the following areas: structures, engine systems, hydraulic, remote data collection, and/or air conveyance systems
  • Expert knowledge of remote data collection methods for both CAN and analog inputs and ability to teach others
  • In-depth knowledge of self-propelled machinery forms, specifically cotton harvesters
  • 2 or more years of experience with product engineering to better understand our test
