About the role
Description
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the health of animals within the zoo and monitor their eating and sleeping habits
- Educate visitors about animals within the zoo, including their preferred diets and natural habitat
- Tend to the specialized care of various species, including trimming nails, bathing coats, and cleaning teeth
- Observe animals' behavior to ensure timely and prompt care should problems arise
- Interact with guests
- Maintain and clean animal enclosures and ensure a safe and secure habitat
- Train and handle various species while considered the best practices in interacting with each animal
- Bathe and groom animals
- Feed and care for various species
- Provide enrichment for various species
- Must be flexible and understand that your job duties may change from time to time and that you may be asked to help in other areas.
Requirements
- 1 year Experience working with birds/reptiles/mammals
- Must be able to work weekends
- Must also be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds and stand for long periods of time
- Willingness to learn and master husbandry procedures
- An optimistic, positive and cheerful outlook is necessary
Education:
- A degree in related field is preferred but not necessary
Schedule:
- Part-time
- Full-time
- Monday-Friday
- Weekends
- Holidays
