Job Description
The Senior Cost Accountant performs all cost accounting and closing activities related to our manufacturing operations locations as well as co-ordinate / participate in the month-end close process, more focus to support project accounting, and perform analysis to support operational and functional leadership.
Job Duties
- Develop an understanding of the manufacturing operations and alerts respective Plant management teams to potential issues when appropriate.
- Works in collaboration with the finance team members on the month end financial closing activities for multiple Plants. For both Plant Locations, Coordinate and prepare the annual budgets and quarterly forecasts both at Cost Center and total Plant. Review and measurement of cost reduction initiatives proposed by the manufacturing departments.
- Maintains Standard Costs for both Plants, Work with IT in designing and implementing changes to existing systems and/or new systems.
- Proactively develops reporting tools reports and analyses information enabling operational counterparts and management to respond to potential exposures. Provide weekly/monthly KPI's on Productivity, Scrap, Work Order Variances, PPV, Cycle count etc.
- Analyze cost accounting data and assists with cycle count/physical inventories. Maintains internal control documentation and tests internal controls (JSOX). Support requirements from internal or external audit group.
- Prepares detailed account analysis and reconciles sales cost and inventory liability accounts by customer type by division. Reviews and analysis inventory and margin reports, conducts research, and performs analytical studies regarding cost analyses and profitability. Ensures timely submission accuracy and validity of inventory gross margin schedules to management.
- Review and evaluate capital expenditure requests for proper preparation and financial documentation. Track and communicate timely approval of CER and closure to fixed asset system.
- Project Cost Accounting - Manage all project cost centers within facilities to include Time/wage/benefit calculation and manual allocation by department and project; validate Accounts Payable and Purchasing expenses; Reconcile monthly Oracle project accounting expenses by account to Oracle General Ledger account balances and making necessary manual entries as needed to balance.
- Works on special projects as required. Assists other Finance team members as needed and as necessary. Other projects and duties as necessary and assigned.
Job Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting required. CPA or CMA designation a plus.
- At least 3-4 years of experience in accounting with at least 3 of those years working in cost accounting preferred.
- Experience in Medical Device or Life Sciences or other regulated manufacturing industry preferred.
- Will be required to travel to Other Manufacturing as required.
- Ability to work overtime including evenings and weekends on occasion.
Preferred:
- Project Accounting experience desired.
- High level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, Powerbi and PowerPoint required.
- Must have Strong knowledge of Cost Accounting Standards & Principles and the ability to analyze and reconcile complex accounts and reserves.
- Strong knowledge and proficiency in the application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles & SOX.
- Working experience / Knowledge of Oracle and Hyperion preferred.
