General Purpose

The Manager oversees the day-to-day operations of a functional unit, managing technical engineering resources to ensure the continued operation, reliability, and resiliency of the company's transmission and distribution systems. This role has a significant impact on corporate, business unit, and organizational objectives. Key responsibilities include development and implementation of technical solutions, engineering guidelines and policies, material specifications, and the integration of advanced technologies into the electric grid. This role oversees the establishment of construction standards and guidelines, as well as the publication of handbooks, requirement manuals, and other documentation related to the engineering, design, constructability, and maintainability of the company's transmission and distribution system assets. Additionally, the Manager is accountable for the department’s budget, resource allocation, and employee management, including selecting, coaching, and developing team members to ensure operational excellence.

Responsibilities

• Develop, approve and implement effective standards for the design and construction of the company's  transmission, and distribution systems that accommodate best practices and overall lowest total ownership cost.
• Provide value added engineering and technical support and consultation services to electric operations relating to all aspects of electric, transmission and distribution systems.
• Verify that standards are developed in accordance with national, state and local requirements.  
• Work in coordination with procurement to evaluate new manufacturers and material to develop bid specifications for material purchases.
• Direct distribution system engineering functions required for delivery of high-quality energy service solutions, asset utilization services and asset performance services.
• Represent the company in technical matters to state, local or industry associated organizations having the ability to influence the energy services business as needed for transmission and distribution engineering policies and standards.
• Support the development of policy, strategies and technical solutions involving automation that will improve the utilization of the system assets, lower ownership costs, improve system performance and overall quality of energy supply.
• Oversee a group of technical engineers versed in complex power system operations, including disruptive technologies, that deliver expert consultation and engineering services to external and internal customers related to dynamic system operation.
• Develop processes and material that improve electric grid resiliency to mitigate wildfire risk and oversees special projects to improve electric grid reliability.
• Support activities related to the evolution and development of a progressive electric grid that may include distributed energy resources, energy storage solutions, electric vehicles with vehicle-to-grid integration, distribution automation schemes, targeted demand side management, complex power quality issues, intelligent end-use devices, proactive outage management solutions and other emerging technologies.  
• Assess industry practices and regulatory changes that directly impact distribution and transmission system operations or standards and create or update policies, procedures or standards to address requirements and improvements.
• Provide the guidance and leadership to ensure the department's goals, objectives and activities add value to and support the company's vision, values and strategic direction.
• Manage and approve engineering activities, studies and designs associated with a large volume of capital projects.
• Apply engineering and environmental principles to support the Company's operations, including support for facilities technical studies, planning, and implementation of capital projects.
• Facilitate change, develop others, foster continuous improvement and drive for compliance to a developed standard. 
• Coordinate with design engineering to develop and update published standards, policies, and procedures. 
• Ensure standards, specifications, policies and procedures maintain compliance with federal, state, or local regulations.
• Recommend and implement action plans for achieving objectives.
• Review and evaluate employee performance and prepare annual reviews.
