OVERVIEW

The Plant Manager is accountable for providing multisite leadership to two site operations with union-free employees who manufacture and/or package and distribute a high quality food product. The Plant Manager is responsible for all facets of leading the site(s), including leading/developing people, managing effective processes, and delivering performance. The successful individual must be strategic in the sense of being able to think broadly with perspective, as well as tactical in the sense of being hands on when necessary.
 

This position manages two locations in the Chicagoland area and will split their time accordingly across both locations. 
 

DETAILED ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES


People

  • Ensures environment, health, and safety (EHS) compliance
  • Directly supervises site leadership team(s) who are responsible for manufacturing and packaging activities, maintenance, materials, and warehousing
  • Provides adequate support, training and development of plant staff and supports performance and talent management activities

Process

  • Tracks and reports data for manufacturing cost controls, cost estimates, capacity plan, manpower, and facility requirements
  • Implements Food Safety Quality Control functions to meet the company’s Quality System requirements
  • Helps formulate short and long-term operating procedures in areas such as manufacturing/processing efficiency, quality, and customer service
  • Drives a culture of continuous improvement (Lean, Six Sigma, 5S) across the plant(s)

Performance

  • Executes strategy to deliver on performance objectives related to EHS, Financial/Budgeting, Operations, and People
  • Ensures that product quality and safety standards are met
  • Ensures site team delivers on customer requirements relative to food quality and customer service
  • Monitors manufacturing and financial performance and implements corrective action planning when needed in order to meet company objectives


 WORK EXPERIENCES

  • 5-10 years’ total professional experience with progressive growth in responsibility
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in production management with responsibility for managing a department
  • Food, beverage, pharmaceutical or CPG industry experience in a complex manufacturing environment preferred; or a combination of food manufacturing with manufacturing experience in other similar industries preferred
  • Demonstrated track record of understanding and applying continuous improvement principles and practices including Lead Manufacturing, TPM, and/or Six Sigma
  • Demonstrated responsibility for managing environment, health, and safety performance.
  • Idea candidate must have a track record of responsibility for managing to high-quality standards including GFSI in Food Industry or ISO in non-food industry

 

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related discipline required, or equivalent experience as determined by HR
  • Master’s or MBA preferred
     

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

  • The Plant Manager has responsibility for at least 5 direct and 30 indirect reports
