Who we want… (Requirements)
NexGen Contracting is seeking a skilled and motivated Construction Surveyor Lead to lead field survey operations on a variety of construction projects. This role is responsible for supervising survey crews, performing and verifying field data collection, and ensuring the accuracy of construction layouts and as-built surveys. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise, leadership ability, and a collaborative mindset to help deliver high-quality results across multiple active job sites.
- A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in land and construction surveying, with 2+ years in a leadership or supervisory role.
- A High School Diploma or GED is required.
- A solid background in as-built surveys, utility mapping, construction stakeout, and site development.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D (v2017 or newer) and COGO software, with strong computer skills including Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat. Topcon Office, Field, Tools software preferred.
- Demonstrated experience using modern survey equipment: robotic total stations, GPS/GNSS systems, data collectors, and automatic levels.
- Experience in Sokkia/Topcon equipment preferred.
- A strong understanding of civil plans, boundary determination, construction layout, and land development regulations.
- SIT (Surveyor-in-Training) certification or other industry credentials preferred.
- Must be able to travel up to 90% of the time to various job sites throughout the region, including potential assignments at military installations.
- A professional demeanor, strong communication skills, and a collaborative mindset.
- Comfortable working at heights and in below-ground and/or confined spaces, including high-rise structures and underground environments.

What we expect… (Essential Functions)
- Lead and supervise a field survey crew, ensuring all fieldwork is conducted safely, efficiently, and accurately.
- Coordinate and communicate effectively with clients, contractors, project managers, and office personnel across multiple ongoing projects.
- Verify existing site conditions, ensuring the accuracy of third-party data and alignment with design plans.
- Conduct pre-survey planning sessions with engineers and project stakeholders to define scope and expectations.
- Perform construction layout, topographic, and control surveys, including the use of GPS and robotic total stations.
