Summary
The Nashville Department of Transportation & Multimodal Infrastructure is searching for a Social Media Specialist who will further build the agency’s successful social media program both as a daily publisher of content and administrator of all official agency accounts. As part of the Marketing and Visual Communications Team, the incumbent will plan, publish, and maintain social media content; provide strategic and tactical counsel to agency brand managers, the Visual Marketing Manager, program and project leads, and others as needed. The Social Media Specialist will manage the overall administration of the agency’s social media program, including all best practices. This individual will maintain a suite of metrics; support social media emergency communications as directed by the Media Relations Specialist, Assistant Director over Public Affairs and other agency leadership. The Social Media Specialist will collaborate with communicators and subject matter experts to launch social media strategies and tactics that meet marketing and communications goals, including the Mayor’s Office of Nashville, the Choose How You Move Program Management Team, Metro Planning, and WeGo Public Transit.The Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure delivers a range of services, and the nearly 400 employees work around the clock to ensure a multimodal system that offers choice and better connects neighborhoods, residents, businesses and visitors to the place that they need and want to go to in a safe manner. These employees are responsible for over 2,200 miles of public roadways and rights-of-way, over 6,000 streets, over 300 bridges, 835 traffic signals and over 1,200 miles of bike/sidewalk lanes and much more. Big events in Nashville consist of CMA Festival, Stanley Cup Finals, Titans games, and any number of special events. These require big preparation and big clean-up and the Nashville Department of Transportation employees are up for the challenge.
Examples of duties
- Creates inclusive relevant, timely and actionable social media content for many transportation topic areas and issues
- Produces audience-friendly and tone-consistent social content using AP style and utilizing modern production techniques appropriate for social media platforms that include Facebook, X, Instagram, YouTube and more.
- Ensures content is accessible, including use of alt-text, video captioning and web content compliance based on ADA regulations.
- Coordinates with staff, including Metro Nashville Network, to incorporate video and photographs into social media content.
- Coordinates with agency Brand Manager to publish division specific content and marketing materials.
- Assists with the overall administration of the agency’s social media program, including compliance with the citywide social media policies, standards, security practices, guidelines, and best practices.
- Integrates inclusive, multicultural and culturally appropriate messaging on social media platforms.
- Monitors all agency social media platforms and address mis/disinformation by identifying it and responding with facts as appropriate.
- Takes initiative and propose new social media ideas, concepts, and projects for consideration. Provide proactive research about all social media platforms as they evolve.
- Gathers and publish social media metrics reports as planned or as needed. Employ methods of social media measurement to determine meaningful and actionable communications outcomes, while identifying opportunities for improvement.
- Produces quarterly analytics report on NDOT’s social media performance as well as campaign specific analytics to determine success/failure of said efforts.
- Communicates platform best practices and provide appropriate training to publishers as needed or as requested.
- Helps plan and assess the use of social media before, during and after emergencies. Must be available outside of regular business hours to post emergency messages and updates.
- Maintains proficiency and knowledge in latest social media technologies and best practices (i.e., new tools, algorithm changes, platform enhancements, etc.)
- Attends staff and public events, occasionally on weekends, to capture content for timely posting to social media accounts.
