About the role
Melvin Stone Company is seeking a dependable and safety-focused Lube & Fuel / Ground Maintenance Technician to support daily quarry operations. This position is responsible for fueling and lubricating heavy equipment, assisting with preventative maintenance activities, and controlling dust conditions throughout the quarry by operating water trucks and related equipment. The ideal candidate enjoys working outdoors, takes pride in equipment care, and understands the importance of supporting efficient production operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Equipment Fueling & Lubrication
- Fuel heavy equipment, mobile equipment, and support vehicles throughout the quarry.
- Perform routine greasing and lubrication of equipment according to maintenance schedules.
- Inspect equipment during fueling and lubrication activities and report mechanical concerns, leaks, or safety issues.
- Maintain accurate fuel and service records as required.
- Ensure fuel storage and handling procedures comply with company safety and environmental standards.
Ground Maintenance & Dust Control
- Operate water trucks and other equipment to control dust on haul roads, work areas, and production zones.
- Monitor quarry conditions and adjust watering schedules to maintain safe operating conditions.
- Assist with roadway maintenance and general quarry housekeeping activities.
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
Equipment & Site Support
- Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections on assigned equipment.
- Support maintenance personnel with basic preventative maintenance tasks.
- Assist quarry operations with general labor duties as needed.
- Identify and communicate operational, environmental, and safety concerns to supervisors.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Ability to safely operate equipment in a quarry or construction environment.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and understanding of equipment maintenance practices.
- Knowledge of lubrication, fueling, and preventative maintenance procedures.
- Ability to perform inspections and recognize potential equipment issues.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and around quarry operations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in quarry, aggregate, mining, construction, or heavy equipment operations.
- Experience operating water trucks, service trucks, or similar equipment.
- Familiarity with heavy equipment such as loaders, excavators, haul trucks, crushers, and support equipment.
- Valid driver's license with a safe driving record.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to frequently climb, bend, stoop, kneel, and walk on uneven terrain.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work around moving equipment, dust, noise, and changing weather conditions.
- Ability to safely enter and exit heavy equipment multiple times throughout the day.
