DSRD Global Pathology Senior Associate Scientist has the competency to perform all aspects of routine histology and immunohistochemical procedures with minimal guidance/supervision, including tissue trimming, processing, embedding, and sectioning.
The individual is comfortable using complex pathology techniques, scientific principles, and/or data handling.
The candidate should have a basic understanding of assay validation, multiplex IHC approaches, and immunofluorescence techniques.
What You Will Achieve
Communicates with the pathologist and the pathology laboratory manager to ensure proper collection, handling and submission of specimens and maintains a laboratory notebook in an approved electronic archiving system.
Independently completes investigative histology/immunohistochemistry projects using established assays to support multiple research units.
Scans microscope slides into a virtual slide database for pathologist review and downstream image analysis.
Ensures proper use and preventative maintenance of equipment and laboratory space.
Proactively identifies and resolves non-routine problems in a variable environment.
Displays business awareness of organizational impact on project delivery.
May adapt standard procedures by applying knowledge and experience to accommodate non-standard endpoints and to increase efficiency, throughput, and quality
Is multi-skilled and has a working knowledge of operations across the business to support collaborations with team groups and partner lines
Performs effectively as a team member; accurately records data, effectively follows verbal and written instructions, maintains a positive work atmosphere, communicates effectively, interacts in a professional manner with management, colleagues, and customer and partner groups.
Works toward developing new immunohistochemical methods as requested and builds familiarity with RNAscope ISH assays.
Qualifications
Musy Have
B. S Degree (or equivalent) in a related field with 3-5 years relevant experience in a histology lab OR Masters Degree with 0 to 3 years of experience
Has strong technical knowledge of automated immunohistochemistry platforms, such as Leica Bond and Ventana Ultra
Nice to Have
Experience working in a histology/immunohistochemistry lab within a pharmaceutical company
Knowledge of good laboratory practices (GLP)
Cryotomy experience
Prior experience with rodent histology/necropsy
HT/HTL (ASCP) certification or eligible
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
The position requires performing ex vivo work and therefore the colleagues must be able to wear appropriate PPE.
They must be able to physically perform the technical procedures that may require lifting, sitting, standing, walking, and bending.
