Position Specific Summary
The Engineering Associate position at the City of Tucson’s Department of Transportation & Mobility Department inspects city roadways for current conditions, treatment programs as part of the roadway preservation and rehabilitation programs within the Pavement Management Section.
Work is performed under the supervision of the Transportation Program Coordinator. This position does not supervise.
Duties and Responsibilities
Inspects and collects roadway data for pavement conditions to determine future funding and plans. Inspects roadways for current conditions after a treatment has been applied and compares the treatments to ensure compliance with the plan and contract. Drives to various worksites and locations to conduct inspections. Ensures roadway treatments and maintenance activities comply with relevant standards, guidelines, and contract requirements. Utilizes Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and other software tools to map and analyze pavement conditions. Performs quality assurance inspections to verify that contractors have completed work to the specified standards.
Enters data into the database (Open Gov CarteGraph Asset Management). Ensures data accuracy by cross-referencing data. Compares construction, right of way (ROW), permit plans and use of those plans, and use of those plans for field observations, data entry, pavement segmentation, pavement data management, progress interpretation, and implications to inspection schedules.
Fields questions from internal and external customers regarding current pavement conditions, prior treatment information and future treatment information. Attends public meetings as needed during project implementation.
Utilizes plans and contracts to get a better understanding of the pavement assets related to each project to guide the inspection, data input and to ensure compliance upon completion of projects.
Perform other duties and tasks as assigned.
Working Conditions
Indoor and outdoor work with some exposure to extreme physical, ergonomic, or emotional hazardous environment.
