Description

This position will cover the academic operations of Department of Pediatrics Divisions of Palliative Care, Critical Care Medicine, Heart, and assist with the Divisions of Emergency Medicine and Neonatology.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plans, coordinates, and is responsible for major administrative and clinical activities including grants and contracts, budget planning, financial analysis, data processing operations, and human resources management for at least one division within a department.
  • Serves as an autonomous leader with divisional-level decision-making authority.
  • Collaborates with departmental leadership on budget development without overall budget responsibility.
  • Develops plans to ensure that generated clinical revenues increase each year while limiting expenses.
  • Works with Department Chair to establish goals and objectives for the department(s); monitors progress towards their achievement.
  • Develops and implements various clinical and administrative programs to enhance employees' skills and to improve the effectiveness of existing clinical services.
  • Develops new programs to ensure the growth of the department and to meet the changing demands for new services.
  • Acts as a liaison between management and other schools/departments concerning clinical activities and issues. Ensures required record-keeping is maintained.
  • Develops and implements formal training and development programs for staff.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

ADDITIONAL JOB DETAILS:

  • Plans, coordinates, and is responsible for the operational activities of 4 divisions within Department of Pediatrics.
  • These activities includes
    • Monitoring faculty financial health and vulnerability
    • Partnering with Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta practice leadership on faculty effort and recruitment
    • Reimbursements
    • Children’s-related expenditures
    • Development and administration of division budgets for combined total between divisions of over $8 million
    • Financial analysis
    • Human resources liaising and management
  • Works with the Division Directors to develop and administer the division-level academic resources and to establish short and long term objectives.
  • Facilitates new and renewal non-sponsored contracts.
  • Interviews staff applicants and recommends candidates for select positions.
  • Ensures effective and efficient business procedures.
  • Handles division human resources issues and is accountable for the hiring, disciplinary, termination, and salary decisions which are made for the division.
  • Prepares various operational and statistical reports. Supervises staff and effectively manages employee performance.
  • Ensures required record-keeping is maintained.
  • Works closely with department administration (HR, IT, Finance, RAS, Communications) and acts as a liaison between management and other divisions, schools and departments.
  • Assist in determining and addressing staff training needs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree, preferably in business, finance, or related science field, and five years of professional business or management experience which includes experience in a clinical or healthcare environment, OR an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
  • Previous supervisory experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree aand 5 years of business experience in academic environment.
  • Familiarity with research administration preferred.

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs.  Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines of department. This role requires residency in the state of GA. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
