Collins Aerospace is looking for a Principal Stress Engineer, Aftermarket Technical Services with a deep knowledge and highly developed technical expertise. You will perform stress analysis and approve repairs and allowable damage limits across multiple programs to be incorporated into the Structural Repair Manual. You will work independently, providing technical guidance to junior engineers, making recommendations to management, and working on standardization to improve turnaround times.

This position works in a primarily onsite capacity in Chula Vista, CA.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Perform stress analysis and develop analytical methods for complex technical issues requiring creativity and ingenuity in creating product repairs and allowable damage limits to support engine manufacturers and airframers.

  • Apply advanced structural analysis principles to support repair design development on metallic and composite structures.

  • Guide and mentor others in stress analysis on nacelle structural hardware to substantiate Structural Repair Manuals (SRM) repairs and allowable damage.

  • Work with production engineering to understand design changes and evaluate impact to structure maintainability, repairability, and maintenance manuals (CMM, SRM, AMM).

  • Support and/or lead regular customer meetings with both internal and external to evaluate potential enhancements for Aircraft in-service. Capable of positively interacting in a team environment and have good listening and verbal communication skills.

  • Represent company in technical review meetings and have excellent customer relations and negotiating skills.

  • Work with a global team.

  • Communicate and make presentations to internal and external customers and be driven to achieve customer satisfaction.

  • Serve as the key point of contact for internal and external customers on complex technical issues.

  • Mentor other engineers and lead teams in the generation of standard work for repair development.

  • Work with all levels of maintenance, engineering, and management personnel.

Qualifications/ Experience Needed:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience.

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future.  RTX will not offer sponsorship for this position.

  • Experience with repair analysis of aircraft metallic and/or composite structures.

  • Experience in technical understanding of maintenance, repair, overhaul, and regulatory requirements in the commercial aircraft industry.

  • Experience with load path, load balance, free body diagram and experience in classical hand analysis methods used in Aerospace structural analysis.

  • Finite element analysis of aircraft structure using Patran/Nastran (soln's 101, 106, 400).

  • Experience with technical writing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in MRB and MRO repairs.

  • Knowledge in Automation (Excel VBA & Visual Basic applications) highly desired.

  • Composite nacelle and exhaust repair experience.

  • Basic CATIA V and FiberSim skills desirable.

  • Detailed understanding of nacelle systems desirable.

  • MS Office Suite: Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

  • Familiarity on specialty manufacturing processes for aerospace components.
