JOB DESCRIPTION:
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly experienced Director with expertise in Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) to lead our research and development efforts. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in molecular biology and extensive experience with PCR techniques, including a proven track record of commercializing highly multiplexed tests, using innovation to drive best in class performance. This role involves leading a team of scientists, designing and optimizing ultra-rapid PCR assays for use in decentralized settings, and driving the development of new PCR-based technologies and applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead PCR Research and Development: Oversee the design, development, characterization and optimization of ultra-rapid PCR assays for use in decentralized settings, including integration with upstream sample preparation technologies.
- Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a team of scientists and technicians, providing guidance and support to ensure high-quality research and development outcomes that meet project/program timelines.
- Project Management: Establish plans, timelines, and protocols for concept and feasibility testing, characterization and optimization, and design transfer.
- Protocol Development: Develop new protocols and processes, standard operating procedures, and train personnel on techniques.
- Data Analysis: Analyze and interpret complex PCR data, utilizing bioinformatics tools and software to ensure accurate results.
- Innovation: Drive innovation in PCR technology, exploring new methodologies and approaches to enhance product performance.
- Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to PCR development and data interpretation.
- Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including bioinformatics, engineering, quality assurance, manufacturing and quality control, to ensure seamless integration of PCR technologies into products.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all PCR-related activities comply with relevant regulatory standards and guidelines.
- Presentation and Publication: Present research and development progress to cross-functional teams, including executives. Publish in peer-reviewed journals and present at scientific conferences to share advancements in assay technology.
Qualifications
- Education: Master’s or Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 8 years of experience in PCR research and development, with a strong focus on assay development and optimization.
- Technical Skills: Highly proficient in various PCR techniques, including qPCR, RT-PCR, dPCR, rapid PCR, multiplexing PCR, nested PCR. Experience with isothermal nucleic acid amplification technologies is a plus. Diverse knowledge of and experience with analytical, metrology and functional test methods.
- Leadership: Proven experience in leading and managing research teams.
- Analytical Skills: Strong data analysis skills, with experience using bioinformatics tools and software.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a track record of publishing in scientific journals and presenting at conferences.
- Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to PCR.
Preferred Qualifications
- Expertise in rapid multiplexed PCR research and development for implementation in decentralized settings.
- Experience in the biotechnology industry with proven track record of developing products that have obtained regulatory approval and commercial success.
- Experience working under a quality management system and knowledge of regulatory requirements for diagnostic product development.

The base pay for this position is
$164,900.00 – $329,700.00In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
