Technical Consultant, Transportation

Overview

The Technical Consultant Subject Matter Expert (SME) is responsible for providing technical subject matter expertise to internal and external stakeholders. This position is client facing and leads opportunity pursuits and assists in knowledge transfer to staff. The Technical Consultant SME will assist in managing client expectations, leading technical implementations, and providing high level technical resolution.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical expertise to clients and internal employees.
• Help position the firm as a leader in new/emerging areas of expertise.
  • Lead in industry expertise through conferences, articles, blogs, white papers.
  • Help clients and internal stakeholders understand the area of expertise.
• Research, communicate, and implement best practices firm-wide related to area of expertise.
• Translate subject matter terminology into business terms.
• Recommend solutions to leadership and clients.
• Assist in leading projects and program implementations.
• Act as project team leader (as requested), coordinating work efforts and training staff.
• Review technical guides and documents to ensure accuracy before distribution.
• Provide technical resolution to internal/external stakeholders on complex issues.
• Apply leading-edge principles to job assignments and contribute to company knowledge advancement.
• Serve as a technical expert and firm representative at business development functions when needed.

Client Development:

• Assist in managing scope, budget, resources, and quality on niche projects.
• Provide technical expertise for contract negotiation and bid creation.
• Assist in securing profitable new/emerging business opportunities related to area of expertise.

Qualifications

• Must have a BA/BS and twelve (12) years related experience years related experience.
• Must have industry specific certification and/or registration.
• Must be mentally and physically capable of performing all essential duties required of the position.
• Must have expert communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Must be able to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries from clients, regulatory agencies, and/or members of the business community.
• Must be able to demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain strong business relationships.
• Must be able to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style.
• Must have above average presentation skills.
• Must be able to develop computer applications or other analysis techniques appropriate to discipline.
• Must the ability to establish and maintain rapport with employees, community leaders and executive management.
• Must possess keen decision-making skills using analytical reasoning and judgment.

 

Resulting Physical Qualifications:

• Must be able to sit for extended periods of time.
• Must be able to operate and manipulate standard office equipment.
• Must be able to occasionally reach, bend, climb and/or balance.
• Must be able to frequently lift and/or move 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
• Must be able to travel as required.
