Job Description:

Rhodes College seeks a Head Field Hockey Coach to coordinate all phases of intercollegiate field hockey program.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree, required.

  • This position requires a valid driver’s license, good driving record, and must be insurable by the College’s insurance carrier.

  • 2-3 years of field hockey coaching experience at the high school or college level required.

  • Must communicate effectively with all types of people, and establish and maintain a strong working relationship with students, parents, alumni, faculty, staff and other college personnel.

  • Must have the ability to work responsibly with minimal supervision.

  • Must have knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop competitive teams in the Collegiate Field Hockey Conference (CFHC), the region, and nationally in the NCAA DIII landscape. Maximize student-athlete's talent on the field while supporting the high academic standards of the institution by exhibiting a positive coaching philosophy.

  • Complete all credit card reconciliations, email correspondence and returning of phone calls in a timely manner, meeting deadlines as directed.

  • Work with the Rhodes Athletics compliance office to ensure the program and student-athletes operate within all rules of Rhodes College Athletics, Rhodes College, NCAA Division III, and the Collegiate Field Hockey Conference (CFHC). Must score a 75 on the annual NCAA Rules Test.

  • Inventory, manage and update equipment and assist with management of all game and practice facilities utilized by the team and department.

  • Select, supervise, evaluate and guide the professional development of assistant coach staff.

  • Manage operational budget while demonstrating fiscal responsibility and support of cost containment initiatives while overseeing the purchase of inventory, uniforms, equipment, facilities maintenance/upgrade and travel.

  • Establish a competitive schedule, coordinate team travel and maintain compliance with college guidelines pertaining to class hours missed.

  • Evaluate and compare athletic talent for potential growth and development of student-athletes while maintaining correspondence with prospects through phone, email and in-person visits.

  • Collaborate with College and athletic units, including admissions, financial aid, medical services, academic support, judicial affairs, compliance and development.

  • Regular attendance is an essential function to perform the duties of this position.

  • Supervise student athletes in the varsity weight room.

Physical Demands

  • Exerting up to 40 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

  • Position involves both inside sedentary work and work on different fields and on other fitness environments while coaching and training situations with student-athletes.

  • Lifting required (i.e., set-up of scorers’ table, etc.), some manual labor is expected.

  • Evening and weekend hours in all types of weather, with travel is necessary.
