Job Description: Broker Data Analyst

Millennium is looking to add a dynamic and motivated Broker Data Analyst. You will source data products from the firm’s brokers and collaborate with them to build new data products that drive value for our investment professionals. You will be the firm’s subject matter expert on broker data and advise investment professionals, business managers, and colleagues on the space. You will develop 1x1 relationships with key individuals at the firm’s brokers, our investment professionals, and our technologists. You will work with and support all investment strategies at the firm globally, including: equities, macro (including futures, FX, fixed income / rates), and commodities across both systematic and fundamentally-driven investment processes. You will help to drive the constant evolution of the firm’s data platform and contribute innovative ideas on delivering resources to our investment professionals at scale.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify and source existing datasets from the firm’s brokers
  • Incentivize and guide the development of new datasets from the brokers
  • Work closely with the firm’s technologists to develop datasets from broker content
  • Build a detailed profile on each broker dataset with all relevant metadata, including sources, methodology, and use cases
  • Develop a view on and document the strengths, weaknesses, and potential value of each dataset to the investment process across strategies and asset classes, including how it compares to other available data
  • Recommend datasets to senior investment professionals and business managers for use at the firm, accept and incorporate their feedback, and onboard the agreed datasets quickly and efficiently
  • Act as the firm’s broker data expert with deep knowledge of each broker’s offering and the market broadly
  • Author and publish proprietary commentary on broker datasets and the broker data landscape to our investment professionals in order to raise awareness and recommend high value datasets
  • Advise investment professionals on available broker datasets that suit their strategy and seek their feedback on broker data toward sourcing and developing valuable datasets from the brokers
  • Manage high volumes of work on behalf on various areas of the firm with competing priorities, effectively communicate expectations with internal and external counterparts, and execute quickly and efficiently
  • Develop, track, and report on metrics on the supply, consumption, and value of broker data at the firm for internal and external audiences
  • Build strong relationships with senior leadership and data teams at the brokers and deliver feedback on their performance in order to incentivize further partnership
  • Negotiate with the brokers to achieve best outcomes for the firm with respect to data, including on commercial terms associated with certain datasets where applicable
  • Collaborate with other data analysts at the firm to employ standard data practices and share intelligence on the data market in order to present a holistic data offering to our investment professionals
  • With the successful execution of the above responsibilities, additional responsibilities may include expansion in scope to other external data sources and engagement with investment professionals on their broader data needs

Qualifications/Skills Required:

  • 4-6 years of professional experience in finance with exposure to data and quantitative investment
  • Understanding of both systematic and discretionary investment processes and the application of data
  • Experience evaluating datasets for investment use, with a thorough understanding of the characteristics of value-rich datasets for systematic investment managers in particular
  • Knowledge of data science concepts and processes, specifically related to data quality and data assessment
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent organization and time management skills to manage high volumes of work
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with demonstrated experience presenting to senior investment professionals
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills
  • Intellectually curious and creative person seeking constant challenge and improvement
  • Resourceful and ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with a team
  • Ability to handle pressure and energized by high performance standards
  • SQL and python skills preferred
