POSITION SUMMARY:
The IECMHC is a prevention-focused, relationship-based mental health consultant who partners with home visiting programs in Wayne County to strengthen the capacity of home visitors, supervisors, and families to support the social-emotional development and mental well-being of infants, young children, and their caregivers. This indirect, consultative role emphasizes reflective practice, systems collaboration, and family-centered strategies to promote positive outcomes.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide regular group reflective consultation and 1:1 case consultation to home visiting staff.
- Participate in joint home visits with home visitors and families, as needed, to support relationship-based strategies and inform consultation.
- Offer specialized training on mental health topics relevant to infant and early childhood development, trauma, and family wellness.
- Facilitate reflective touchpoints with supervisors and administrators to enhance leadership capacity and team wellness.
- Promote understanding of early childhood mental health, perinatal mental health, child development, and the impact of trauma, stress, and systemic inequities.
- Strengthen home visitors' ability to partner effectively with parents and caregivers, supporting their roles as primary nurturers.
- Help programs build pathways for referrals and access to mental health and community resources.
- Maintain accurate monthly data reporting in accordance with state guidelines and participate in state-level technical assistance and training opportunities.
- Maintain fidelity to the Michigan Model for IECMHC.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, or a related mental health field (required).
- Licensed or license-eligible in the state of Michigan (preferred).
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience providing mental health services to young children and families.
- Current or eligibility for Michigan Association for Infant Mental Health (MI-AIMH) Endorsement:
- IFS (Infant Family Specialist - Level II) within 1 year of hire (required).
- IMHS (Infant Mental Health Specialist - Level III) preferred.
- Completion of Michigan’s Model for IECMHC Curriculum within 3 months of hire (required).
- Reflective, empathetic, culturally responsive, and skilled in building collaborative relationship

- Home Visiting programs and best practices
- Infant and early childhood development
- Perinatal mental health
- Impact of trauma, parental mental health, and substance use on young children
- Issues of racial equity, systemic barriers, and implicit bias
WORK ENVIORNMENT AND EXPECTATIONS:
- Travel required for community-based consultation and home visits.
