Associate Director, Diagnostics & Newborn Screening (NBS)

Reporting to: Head of Global Diagnostics

Job Summary

The Associate Director, Diagnostics & NBS will support the advancement of MLD Newborn Screening primarily in the United States working collaboratively with internal partners and external key stakeholders. This position reports to the Head of Global Diagnostics and will require extensive travel, domestic and international.

Key Elements and Responsibilities

Strategy & Execution

• Contribute to and execute upon the Orchard Diagnostics and NBS global strategic plan that will support advancement of MLD NBS efforts in collaboration with key internal functions including commercial, medical affairs, patient advocacy, and communications teams.
• Develop state by state implementation plans to overcome potential barriers to the advancement of MLD NBS.
• Oversee management of Investigator Initiated Studies with external partners, primarily in the US, to ensure advancement of NBS research.   
• Support external lab partners to ensure studies commence on time and planned milestones are achieved for pipeline disorders.

Relationship Management

• Map and maintain an overview of US State Public Health Laboratories and other NBS stakeholders.
• Focus on relationship development with external investigators and state public health lab key personnel to achieve productive ongoing partnerships.
• Identify means and develop relationships that can effectively advance research partnerships in NBS.
• Ensure Orchard participates and presents at key/relevant diagnostic events and meetings to build awareness. Successfully co-ordinate events and logistics where appropriate.

Cross Functional Collaboration/Alignment

• Keep abreast of legislative and other key developments in the field of Newborn Screening as a Public Health program to effectively support strategy development and operational execution and to serve as an internal expert and advisor to colleagues.

Requirements

Knowledge & Experience

• Up to date knowledge of the Newborn Screening landscape and programmes in the US
• Experience working with Public Health stakeholders

 Skills & Abilities

·         Excellent project management of multiple parallel projects

·         Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills

·         Ability to work independently with a proactive approach to study co-ordination

·         Highly collaborative with excellent networking skills

·         Resilient and able to identify and overcome challenges and obstacles

Education

·         Required: BSc in life sciences, preferably Biochemistry and/or MPH

·         Preferred: Experience in a public health setting
