This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

As part of a small, hardworking and accomplished team of aerospace technicians, you will be responsible for fabrication, troubleshooting, and operation of the test facility. You will share in the team’s impact on all aspects of the program in support of component and sub-system level testing.  

 

We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact testing and continuous improvement at our Vacuum Engine Experiment test stand (VEEx). Passion for our mission and vision is required!

Van Horn Specific information:

Being at the heart of Blue Origin operations, the West Texas Site in Van Horn, TX offers eligible employee’s additional attractive financial incentives to supplement their competitive base earnings, including a living allowance and relocation assistance.  Eligibility for these additional benefits is based on the employee’s ability to permanently relocate to Van Horn, TX.

Responsibilities:

  • Construct, operate, and maintain test facilities
  • Integrate test articles and perform system test checkouts
  • Review and execute test procedures accurately
  • Troubleshoot issues with instrumentation, valves, leaks, and related systems
  • Collaborate with engineers on design concepts, system improvements, and test development
  • Plan and clearly communicate assembly steps for complex mechanical installations
  • Offer feedback on Ground Support Equipment (GSE) and test article designs
  • Safely handle hazardous chemicals and high-pressure systems
  • Adhere to 5S and FOD (Foreign Object Debris) control procedures

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in fluids testing, facility support, or testing rocket/jet engines or similar applications
  • Familiarity with test, flight, and safety-critical hardware
  • Skilled with standard mechanical tools and fabrication shop equipment
  • Experience with pneumatic systems—both low and high pressure—as well as propellant loading/offloading systems
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
  • Physically able to lift 40 lbs, work in adverse weather, and climb stairs/ladders
  • 2-year vocational degree in a relevant mechanical field, A&P license, or military technical training

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years’ experience in propulsion facilities/systems or launch vehicle processing, including Launch and Recovery Operations, Rocket or Crew Capsule Maintenance, Integration, and Testing
  • In-depth knowledge of rocket propellants and launch facility cryogenic support systems (LH2, LOX, LN2, He)
  • Experience with cryogenic propellant offloading
  • Familiarity with tube fabrication (bend, flare, fittings, proof & test) and pressurized system safety
  • Experience fabricating and routing pressurization and propellant tubing
  • Proficient in operating heavy-lifting equipment, such as cranes or forklifts, around critical flight hardware
  • MIG/TIG or orbital welding experience is a plus
  • Ability to recommend methods and solutions to enhance maintenance, integration, and testing procedures
  • Experience with test article integration, checkout, and troubleshooting of fluid systems
  • General maintenance of mechanical components and systems
