The Department of Surgery at the University of South Florida, Morsani College of Medicine is seeking a Open Rank to Perform all aspects of Vascular surgery. Applicants that have completed Vascular surgery residency and demonstrated experience in surgical education, research, and patient care.
Responsibilities
20%- TEACHING DUTIES As Vice Chair of Education for the Department of Surgery, you will provide leadership and oversight for all educational programs across the department, including undergraduate medical education (UME), graduate medical education (GME), fellowship training, and continuing medical education (CME).
Strategic Leadership: Guide the vision and execution of the department’s educational mission, aligning program development with institutional priorities and national best practices in surgical education.
Program Oversight and Accreditation: Ensure all training programs meet accreditation and institutional requirements (e.g., ACGME, LCME, SACSCOC), supporting program directors through internal reviews, special program evaluations, and continuous improvement efforts.
Faculty Mentorship and Development: Cultivate and mentor faculty educators, including Program Directors, Associate Program Directors, and Clerkship Directors. Promote professional development, recognition, and succession planning for faculty with educational roles.
Learner Experience and Advocacy: Maintain a supportive, inclusive, and equitable learning environment. Collaborate with program and institutional leadership to address learner concerns and support wellness initiatives.
Curriculum Innovation: Champion innovation in curriculum design and delivery, including the use of simulation, educational technology, and competency-based assessment tools to advance learner outcomes.
Education Research and Scholarship: Encourage and support research in surgical education, including the development of scholarly output by faculty and trainees. Promote collaboration on grant applications, conference presentations, and peer-reviewed publications.
Data Tracking and Program Metrics: Monitor key performance indicators (e.g., board pass rates, survey outcomes, duty hour compliance, operative logs) to inform strategic decisions and program enhancement.
Budget and Resource Management: Partner with department leadership to ensure alignment of educational program budgets and resource needs. Assist in identifying funding opportunities and advocating for support of educational initiatives.
Institutional Representation: Serve as the department’s liaison to the College of Medicine, Office of GME, affiliated hospitals, and institutional education committees. Represent the department in external education forums as appropriate.
60% - CLINICAL DUTIES Clinical assignment may be revisited as funded educational assignments are assigned by the medical school.
· Complete clinical obligations such as chart completion, patient follow-up, etc.
· Adherence to the highest standards of professionalism and civility as demonstrated through peer and key stakeholder input and formal assessment tools.
· Active participation in division research projects and protocols
· Provide quality bedside teaching to our students, residents & fellows.
· Complete medical student and resident evaluation in a timely fashion.
· Participate in weekly fellowship education series and case conferences.
20% -RESEARCH DUTIES Develop and maintain a nationally competitive research program with continued extramural funding, peer-reviewed publications, and collaboration with other faculty.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION:
Responsible to a Chair or other appropriate higher-level administrator of a State university.
Responsible for teaching, research, service, and related administrative activities.
Responsible for academic advising and related activities.
May represent the university, college/school, or department.
Additional Minimum Qualifications
Doctoral/Medical degree from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in the field of specialization with a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service. Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. For Associate or Full Professor - Normally will have produced creative work, professional writing, or research in refereed and other professional journals, and be a recognized authority in the field of specialization.
