About the role
Description
The Program Coordinator Oral Health and Speech programs is in charge of the implementation and coordination of all activities pertaining to the oral health program and the speech and language program. S/he will ensure all necessary resources are in place and all logistical arrangements have been made to ensure timely delivery of quality oral health care and speech and language care to patients.
Essential Functions:
Implementation and Coordination, Oral Health Program as well as Speech & Language Programs
- Conduct fact-finding and assessment trips to prepare for program activities.
- Determine all human resources needed to conduct program activities. Communicate them well in advance to appropriate team members for processing: to Health Workforce Capacity Building team for local volunteers; to Regional Volunteer Management team for international volunteers; to Smile Clubs coordinator for non-medical volunteers and translators.
- Determine all logistical resources needed to conduct program activities. Communicate them well in advance to appropriate team members for processing: to procurement team for purchases of goods and services; to HIES team for remaining needs.
- Determine all financial resources needed to conduct program activities and communicate them well in advance to appropriate team members for processing.
- Check that all human, logistical and financial resources are in place prior to start of program activities.
- Ensure all stakeholders are kept well-informed before, during and after program activities through appropriate communication channels (information calls and e-mails, courtesy visits, team packets, team leaders call, reports…).
- Check with the National Health System Strengthening team that all necessary agreements and authorizations have been obtained from all key technical partners (MOH technical departments, hospitals and other health facilities, government officials.
- Ensure that temporary medical licenses are obtained for international volunteers when applicable.
- Lead the team to achieve success: medical volunteers, non-medical volunteers and other supporting staff and technical partners.
- Ensure all program activities meet Global Standards of Care in collaboration with the Regional Medical Officer and medical leadership.
- Liaise with necessary departments at OSI in the implementation of programs.
- Solve problems and follow crisis notification plan when applicable.
- Provide accurate reports to help plan and develop future programs and to provide feedback to sponsors and volunteers.
- Manage cash advances and ensure timely reconciliation and reporting.
Requirements
Experience Required (education/work):
- Bachelor’s degree in public health, nursing or healthcare related areas.
- 3+ years of experience in international program/project or event planning and implementation.
- Health program/project management experience preferred.
- Prior experience in oral health or speech programs is a plus.
- Understanding of health systems and medical programming in Madagascar.
Competencies:
- Developed English, French and Malagasy oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work off hours (on-call), sometimes early in the morning, late at night or on weekends.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Ability to lift heavy objects and support packing items for transport.
- Must have excellent organization and time management skills and be able to prioritize requests efficiently and effectively.
- Approachable personality with ability to manage stress and communicate needs appropriately.
- Must be patient and flexible when dealing with government processes and procedures.
- Must be able to handle issues with diplomacy, tact and cultural sensitivity.
- Willingness to travel domestically. At times in short notice.
