Job Description
NREL is seeking to hire an early career researcher to participate in various projects to conduct cutting-edge research in the areas of renewable thermal energy systems. The candidate will work with other engineers and scientists in the Thermal Energy Systems Group, within the Energy Conversion and Storage Systems Center (ECaSS) Center. The thermal energy systems group is focused on concentrating solar power (CSP) and thermal (CST) technologies, thermal energy hybridization systems, and thermal energy storage systems.
The candidate will conduct RD efforts on advancing solar collector technology and developing/operating top-notch CSP performance evaluation platform. Specifically, we are looking for a qualified candidate who:
Occupy in-depth knowledge on CSP/CST components and systems, particularly on solar collectors
Occupy past experiences in conducting RD efforts on solar collectors
Program in python, matlab or other suitable languages for solar collector metrology systems
Design/perform experiments for solar collector performance evaluation and solar thermal technologies
Compile and present technical research to a wide audience
Conduct independent research on concentrating solar thermal power and thermal energy storage, with necessary guidance
Mentor student interns to carry out scope-specific project.

Basic Qualifications
Relevant PhD . Or, relevant Master's Degree and 3 or more years of experience . Or, relevant Bachelor's Degree and 5 or more years of experience . Demonstrates broad understanding and wide application of engineering technical procedures, principles, theories and concepts in the field. General knowledge of other related disciplines. Demonstrates leadership in one or more areas of team, task or project lead responsibilities. Demonstrated experience in management of projects. Very good writing, interpersonal and communication skills.* Must meet educational requirements prior to employment start date.
Additional Required Qualifications
Experience in the design, fabrication, testing, and commissioning of custom mechanical systems and software supporting RD work
