Purpose

Participate in the planning and delivery of academic advising and programs that promote comprehensive educational opportunities for students in the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

Essential Functions 

• Participate in the planning/delivery of academic advising, and services for registration and progress towards degree. Meet with mechanical engineering majors, including incoming students, every semester for advising. Review and update degree audits as needed; maintain advising records. Maintain Undergraduate Office documentation.
• Assist in the planning and implementation of programs for freshman, transfer, internal transfer, and prospective students, including the FIG program, freshman orientation, internal transfer sessions, and other departmental events (Gone to Engineering, Family Weekend, Explore UT, Meet ME at UT, Best of Texas). Make presentations to various related audiences as appropriate. First-year Interest Group (FIG) Facilitator. Meet with FIG students and peer mentor in weekly seminar.
• Responsible for understanding and interpreting the requirements and academic options in the students' degree plans for both undergraduate and graduate. Work closely with other academic advisors and counselors in order to provide timely information on course and degree options and university policies. Assist in all registration activities including lift advising bars, add/drops, pre-requisite checks, etc.
• Coordinate departmental tutoring program, undergraduate advisory board (UAB), and contact for exchange students/program.
• Attend meetings and participates in professional development activities.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and six years of experience working with college students or in an academic counseling capacity or Master's degree in a related field and four years of experience. Must demonstrate proficient oral and written communication, interpersonal, and organization skills. Must demonstrate accuracy and attention to detail. Able to work independently as well as collaboratively with faculty and staff. Have expert knowledge of applicable laws, policies and best practices regarding student advising and student success. Ability to comply with workplace guidelines, and adhere to FERPA compliance. Regular and punctual attendance is required. Ability to travel is required.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge and experience in NRRECS, EASI, Advisor's Toolkit, IDA 2.0, and UT Box.

Salary Range

$50,000+ depending on qualifications

Work Shift

• Monday – Friday, 8 am – 5 pm. Occasional evening, weekend, or overtime hours may be required.
