Freelance: Senior Asset Generalist - New York

This is a freelance position within the New York team, candidates must be available from May to December 2025, and able to work a hybrid schedule with 1-2 office days per week on average. Ideal candidates will be based in the New York area, and must have valid US work authorization.

The Role
The Senior Asset Generalist will be expected to take a hands-on approach to creating highly accurate and efficient CG assets across a variety of styles with an emphasis in photo-real organic modeling. This role should also have considerable knowledge in texturing as well as look development. They will be looked to as a mentor for artists in all departments and a voice to help push our global Asset department forward through sharing of knowledge and techniques.
What you’ll do:
Asset creation : working in a hands-on capacity and with other artists as needed.
Execute accurate models, textures, and surface qualities for both organic and hard surface assets
Presenting assets for progress review to leads, supervisors, and clients
Communicating with other departments and production in order to ensure assets meet relevant requirements
Ongoing communication with production and leads regarding schedules and deadlines
Staying on schedule and meeting show deadlines while maintaining the highest levels of quality
Mentoring other artists by working with, providing feedback during projects, and guiding artists in your team during their projects.
Maintaining and enforcing a strong pipelined workflow for asset building across the team whilst ensuring its continued evolution
Helping develop, produce, and/or ideate toolsets to help make our projects and team more effective and efficient
Requirements
- 5+ years experience in a similar role.
Extensive working knowledge of Maya and Zbrush
Strong working knowledge of Substance Painter and/or Mari
Good working knowledge of Houdini and procedural workflows
Understanding of Arnold and/or other comparable renderers
Thorough understanding and working knowledge of the VFX pipelines, production and workflows
A strong sense of aesthetic and the desire to push boundaries
Strong interpersonal, communication and time management skills
Must be a creative problem solver and have good attention to detail
Must be able to work well under pressure & meet deadlines whilst maintaining high quality
Strong knowledge of anatomy and able to interpret reference material
Good to have leadership experience of small teams
A collaborative work ethic
You might also have
- A working knowledge of Modeling, Rigging and Mel/Python scripting
- Previous experience working with motion capture data
- Knowledge of human and animal anatomy as well as life drawing skill
