About the role

Department Overview:

The Enterprise Project Management Office (EPMO) is a new team under the Division of Finance and Operations (F&O). The EPMO leads strategic projects and process improvements across Academic and Administrative units, fulfilling a critical need for structured execution and institutional alignment. As such, our initial mission is to:

  • Transform chaos into clarity by organizing initiatives, aligning resources, and delivering measurable outcomes.
  • Partner with stakeholders to identify business challenges, explore solution pathways, and prioritize initiatives based on strategic value.
  • Lead facilitation and change management efforts to drive adoption, reduce friction, and sustain operational improvement.
  • Accelerate readiness for Business Intelligence (BI) and IT initiatives by ensuring business needs are clearly defined and strategically aligned.
  • Build institutional project management maturity by standardizing governance practices, fostering strategic execution, and elevating delivery capabilities across the university.

Essential Functions:

  • Manage assigned projects from initiation through close, including defining scope, building project plans, tracking milestones, and ensuring on-time, on-budget delivery.
  • Partner with stakeholders to gather and refine project requirements, identifying both business needs and success criteria.
  • Facilitate project meetings including kickoffs and working sessions, document decisions and action items clearly.
  • Monitor project risks, issues, and dependencies, escalating when necessary to ensure project continuity and success.
  • Maintain clear and timely communication with project sponsors, stakeholders, and team members, providing regular status updates and visibility.
  • Coordinate across departments, including Academics, Administrative, Business Intelligence, IT and Office of Continuous Improvement to ensure effective handoffs and integrated project execution.
  • Support change management efforts by helping stakeholders prepare for, adopt, and sustain changes resulting from project outcomes.
  • Ensure project documentation is complete and accurate, including plans, schedules, test plans, user training materials, and lessons learned.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of EPMO processes, templates, and best practices through feedback and collaboration.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Ability to meet deadlines, handle and prioritize simultaneous requests, and manage laterally and upwards.
  • Ability to present and explain complex technical topics, problems, and alternative solutions.
  • Ability to work autonomously, organize work and manage time effectively, and make key project decisions independently.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Experience in business process design and reengineering.
  • Experience in defining and implementing business processes.
  • Experience in evaluating and applying data to meet business and project needs.
  • Experience working with both functional and technical users to define business needs and changes.
  • Knowledge and understanding of change management and facilitation.
  • Skilled in interpersonal relationships, collaborations, and communications (oral and written).
  • Solid understanding of project management principles with demonstrated project management skills.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent plus 8 years relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Project Management Professional (PMP)
  • Certified Change Management Professional (CCMP)
  • PROSCI methodology experience

Salary and Benefits:

Salary range starts at $89,065.60 to $99,500 annually and is commensurate with experience. Boise State University provides a best-in-class benefits package, including (but not limited to):

  • 12 paid holidays AND the University is closed between Christmas and New Year's (requires use of 3 vacation days)
  • Between 12-24 annual paid vacation days for full-time Professional and Classified staff depending on position type and y
