JOB TITLE:   

Assistant Director, University Store 

JOB PURPOSE:

Oversee the daily operations of the University Store including customer service, retail sales, personnel management, budgeting, inventory control and procurement.

  ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Directly oversee the daily operations of the retail sales floor.
  • Oversee, guide, train and assess sales floor staff, coordinating work schedules and prioritizing daily tasks.
  • Work with the director to prepare, implement and monitor the budget for part-time retail staff.
  • Support in establishing sales targets and creating strategies to reach revenue objectives.
  • Monitor sales performance and analyze sales data to identify trends.
  • Directly oversee purchasing for imprinted apparel and gifts.
  • Responsible for determining appropriate product assortment and graphic selection.
  • Exercise independent judgment in managing the store's product budget, overseeing procurement to maintain optimal inventory levels, and handling special departmental orders.
  • Build and maintain vendor and supplier relationships, negotiating contracts, pricing, and delivery schedules.
  • Oversee inventory levels in alignment with the open-to-buy budget, ensuring purchase orders are processed accurately and on time.
  • Develop and uphold a customer service policy to ensure all customers receive exceptional service.
  • Act as the first point of contact for customer inquiries, providing support with Point-of-Sale (POS) systems and troubleshooting any issues that arise.
  • Support customer service and store objectives by providing insights into service practices and advising the leadership team on policy matters.
  • Keep the sales floor organized by cleaning, restocking, merchandising, and designing impactful displays.
  • Contribute to marketing and promotional strategies to boost store traffic and sales and assist in organizing events.
  • Generate and analyze reports on sales, inventory, and other key performance indicators to guide adjustments in inventory, product selections, or staffing levels.
  • Support the director in long-term strategic planning for the store and aid in developing and implementing business strategies to drive revenue growth. Ensure adherence to university policies, industry standards, and trademark and licensing guidelines.
 SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:
  • May act as Director, University Store in their absence.
  • May work on Saturdays or special events as needed

*This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate to work on campus. This position must be eligible to work in the United States. Sponsorship for work authorization or Work Visa's are not available for this position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:  Bachelor’s degree 

Experience:  3 years' work-related experience in customer service, retail and/or supervisory experience

Required licensure, certification, registration or other requirement: Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) compliant with the University Vehicle Use Policy.
