Business Analyst, Underwriting Data Insights

About the role

The Business Analyst for North America region will support the North America CUO and UW teams in consolidating renewal reports, developing analytics to monitor performance, and undertake market studies to identify opportunities.

Work under the direction of the Americas Head of Analytics & Business Insights to harmonize and enhance the Plans and Renewal processes, as well as the analytical tools and methodologies used across regions. This includes developing dashboards and aggregation tools to effectively assess and manage P&C Business Performance.

Monitor Renewals

  • Monitor business performance against plans and pricing estimates.
  • Identify areas for improvement and report findings to senior management.
  • Coordinate renewal reporting, working with underwriting, pricing, and strategy teams
  • Deliver weekly presentations on the status of the renewal.
  • Improve data accuracy and process efficiency, automating wherever possible and investigating tech solutions.
  • Perform market assessments and develop strategies to improve business.
  • Providing an IT interface to business units, analyzing and defining business requirements.

Support Planning and Quarterly Reviews

  • Review business performance of portfolios and prepare for underwriting plan meetings.
  • Identify trends and collaborate with other functions (underwriting, pricing, reserving) to ensure accurate messaging to top management.

Support Local Business Review Needs

  • Regular communication between UW, Actuarial, Cat Modelling, Financial Closing, and Reserving all who regularly reach out for data. 
  • Conduct deep dives into the US portfolio to gain insights on profitability. Requires coordination with the US Finance and Specialty business analytics teams to discuss any performance data issues.
  • Create and maintain actual vs. expected results from models to support the company's decision-making process.
  • Develop and implement dashboards and reports to communicate key performance metrics to stakeholders. 

Other Responsibilities

  • Contribute to risk concentration and aggregation monitoring.
  • Support global line CUOs with tiering and benchmarking projects.
  • Engage in client management discussions and capture requirements.
  • Enhance knowledge of various P&C reinsurance products.
  • Develop actionable insights and recommendations for business operations.
  • 3+ years of experience in business analysis, financial analysis, forecasting preferably within the insurance/reinsurance sector.
  • Exposure to actuarial concepts highly preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel required.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks.
  • Strong communication skills in English.
  • Analytical skills to work with large, complex data sets.
  • Proficiency in IT tools, including Power BI, Business Objects, Tableau, and PowerPoint.
  • Some coding experience preferred or the ability to learn quickly (SQL, Python, R, VBA) 

Required Education 

  • College degree required, Master’s degree a plus. 
  • Advanced studies or internship in insurance or finance preferred.
