About the role

Overview

As a cornerstone of our network operations, the Senior Network Engineer will lead the charge in architecting and maintaining resilient, high-performance communication systems—spanning both terrestrial and satellite networks. This role demands deep technical acumen and a strategic mindset to design and support complex infrastructure that keeps our organization securely connected. Collaborating closely with the Network & Transport Infrastructure Manager and a team of skilled professionals, you’ll ensure our network remains robust, secure, and future-ready.

Here's some of what you will be doing:

  • Network Design & Implementation:
    • Design, implement, and maintain complex network infrastructure solutions, including LAN, WAN, WLAN, data center networks, and satellite communication systems.
    • Participate in the planning and implementation of network upgrades, expansions, and new satellite ground station installations.
    • Configure and troubleshoot advanced network devices and protocols (e.g., routing protocols, VLANs, QoS, security protocols).
  • Satellite System Operations:
    • Monitor and maintain the performance of satellite uplinks, downlinks, and related equipment.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve satellite communication issues.
    • Conduct routine system checks and preventative maintenance.
    • Assist with the installation, configuration, and testing of new satellite equipment.
    • Coordinate with vendors and contractors for equipment installation and upgrades.
    • Ensure proper installation and commissioning of VSAT sites.
  • Documentation:
    • Create and maintain comprehensive network documentation, including physical and logical network diagrams, configurations, troubleshooting procedures, and satellite ground station operational procedures.
    • Publish technical documentation to clearly explain the operation and function of implemented network infrastructure solutions.
  • Network Monitoring & Troubleshooting:
    • Monitor network performance across terrestrial and satellite links, proactively identify and resolve complex network issues.
    • Analyze network traffic and identify potential performance bottlenecks.
    • Implement and maintain network monitoring and diagnostic tools.
  • Security:
    • Implement and maintain robust network security measures, including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and access control lists, across both terrestrial and satellite networks.
    • Ensure network security compliance with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Technical Expertise:
    • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of networking concepts, protocols, and technologies (e.g., TCP/IP, routing protocols, switching protocols, MPLS, VPNs).
    • Display strong experience with Cisco routers and switches (e.g., Catalyst, Nexus).
      • Experience with network security technologies (e.g., firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems).
      • Advanced knowledge of satellite communication protocols and standards (e.g., DVB-S2, DVB-S2X).
    • Experience with satellite network management systems and control centers.
    • Strong understanding of RF principles and satellite propagation.
      • Experience with network automation and orchestration tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet) is a plus.

Here's some experience we are seeking:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
  • Industry certifications (e.g., CCNP, CCIE, satellite communication certifications) preferred.
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in network engineering or a related field, with a strong preference for experience in both terrestrial and satellite network environments.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Cisco routers and switches (e.g., Catalyst, Nexus).
  • In-depth knowledge of routing protocols (e.g., EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, MPLS).
  • Experience with network security technologies (e.g., firewalls, intrusion detection/ prevention systems).
  • Experience with network monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
  • Strong understanding of networking concepts (e.g., TCP/IP, subnetting, VLANs).
  • Advanced knowledge of satellite communication protocols and standards (e.g., DVB-S2, DVB-S2X).
  • Experience with satellite network management systems and control centers.
  • Strong understanding of RF principles and satellite propagation.
  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) is a plus.
