Job Description Summary

The WFSC Support Engineer is responsible for supporting the maintenance of the Wilmington Field Services Center (WFSC) facility components and equipment including radiological instrumentation, security monitoring equipment, facility mock-ups, and supporting the development and system support on the GE proprietary virtual reality simulator.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Ability to coach and perform critical observations.
  • Conducts work assignments of increasing complexity, under moderate supervision with some latitude for independent judgment.
  • Develop and maintain deep knowledge of technology and its application across our business areas or for our customers.
  • Develop and revise procedures.
  • Ensure all modifications of components and processes are prepared in accordance with applicable safety analyses, industry codes, and all regulatory requirements.
  • Identify and pursue material condition improvements, including predictive and performance centered maintenance optimization.
  • Identify, schedule, and oversee code and regulatory inspections per WFSC facility requirements.
  • Must be able to perform public speaking, training classes, interface with regulators and engage with craft personnel.
  • Must independently assess and make field technical decisions on WFSC shop equipment (mechanical, nuclear, and security) and facility mock-ups and FE proprietary virtual reality simulator, with regards to job and task performance, assessments of conditions, and communication with all levels of management.
  • Perform independent research, reviews, studies, and analyses in support of technical projects and programs.
  • Performance of assessments, corrective actions, benchmarking, and evaluation of current WFSC facility conditions.
  • Prepare required analysis and program documents to support inspection scopes.
  • Promote knowledge and facility capabilities via seminars, presentations and publications within GE and our customers.
  • Provide technical expertise and consultation through direct involvement to identify and resolve equipment and system problems.
  • Provide technical expertise on maintaining, improving, and troubleshooting Radiation Protection instrumentation, RAMQC Security Monitoring equipment, facility mock-ups, and GE proprietary virtual reality simulator.
  • Recommend equipment, new concepts, and techniques to improve performance, simplify construction, reduce costs, correct design, or material flaws, or comply with changes in codes or regulations.
  • Support development of complex troubleshooting plans in support of WFSC facility operations, including Radiation Protection instrumentation, RAMQC Security Monitoring equipment, and facility mock-ups including the Virtual Reality simulator.
  • Support field execution of programmatic inspections.
  • Will have accountability to communicate with customers and vendors in determining best plans for existing equipment, including mock-ups and virtual reality simulator, and future projects.
  • Will have budget accountability for projects.
  • Will utilize knowledge to strategically assess corrective actions to improve facility performance and work efficiency.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or technical related field (electronics, maintenance, instrumentation) with 3 years of experience in a technical or skilled maintenance role.
  • OR Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in an engineering or technical related field (electronics, maintenance, instrumentation) with 3 years of experience in a technical or skilled maintenance role.
  • OR High school diploma with 5 years of experience in a technical or skilled maintenance role.
  • Three years experience in electronic, electro-mechanical, programmable logical controllers, mechanical, optical, ultrasonic, and computer disciplines.
  • Two years of previous experience performing or overseeing maintenance, repair, calibration and preventative maintenance activities associated with
  • High level of concentration, attention to detail and analytical ability required to develop and troubleshoot complicated mechanical, electro-mechanical, electronic, and microprocessor-based equipment.
  • Must be able to obtain access to RAMQC Security Controlled Zones.
