Job Description:

Madison College's School of Art, Humanities, and Social Sciences is seeking a full-time, limited term English Instructor to support its Early College programs. This faculty member will primarily teach in the STEM Academy, which is a dual-enrollment program designed for high school students pursuing STEM fields. The academy offers students a full-time schedule, enabling them to earn one to two years of college credit alongside their high school studies at no cost. These programs focus on increasing access for traditionally underrepresented groups in STEM, including female students and students of color. This position is grant-funded through May 31, 2026, with potential for renewal based on continued funding. The grant has been successfully renewed in previous years.

Our goal is to conduct virtual interviews beginning the week of June 2, 2025, with second round virtual interviews on June 12th and 13th for an August 14, 2025 start date.

This position is responsible for instruction of English at the college level at both our Truax and our Goodman South Campuses.  This includes developing a relevant and progressive curriculum, designing and implementing effective learning strategies and environments, utilizing innovative teaching techniques and technology, delivering instruction of high quality, assessing student learning, advising students, and participating in college service activities at the department, school and college levels.

A faculty member in this position will teach the following core English courses:

  • First-year composition and/or corequisite first-year composition

  • Academic research writing

  • Literature

Other teaching opportunities may include career and professional workplace writing and/or creative writing courses, depending on departmental needs which are subject to change.

Most English courses are offered in person during the day.  All faculty are expected to be able to teach in a variety of delivery modes (training provided as needed).

This position reports to the Dean of the School of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences.

Essential Duties:

-Facilitate student learning by developing appropriate instructional strategies to fit students’ needs and support student engagement. Continually revise curriculum to improve student learning.

-Evaluate student performance and provide regular feedback in courses taught by the instructor.

-Contribute to student success and retention by advising students with course selection, career concerns, internships, and other matters.

-Serve as an advocate for students and engage in activities that help students achieve their goals such as writing letters of recommendation, and/or helping students link with internships, service learning, job shadowing and other forms of networking.

-Provide support to the program, the school, and the college by attending and engaging in events and meetings and participating fully within the team environ
