The Role:
The Workplace/Internal Communications team at GM is seeking a Manager of Internal Communications to lead strategic initiatives that enhance the employee experience, foster trust and pride in leadership, and support key employment initiatives impacting our global workforce. This is a pivotal role for an experienced communications manager who thrives at the intersection of strategy, storytelling, and employee engagement. The ideal candidate can proactively shape internal narratives while navigating complex challenges with discretion and impact. What You'll Do (Responsibilities):
Develop & Execute Global Internal Communications Strategy: Lead the strategy and execution of communications programs that enhance the employee experience and build confidence in leadership.
Employment Initiatives: Develop communications strategies that support workforce initiatives, organizational changes, and leadership priorities to ensure seamless transitions and strong employee buy-in.
Leadership Communications: Shape messaging and platforms that amplify leadership voices, ensuring transparency, authenticity, and inspiration in internal storytelling.
Integration with External Communications: Collaborate with external communications teams on issues that require a unified approach across internal and external stakeholders.
Measurement & Continuous Improvement: Leverage data and employee insights to measure effectiveness and continuously refine communication strategies for maximum impact.
Additional Job Description
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, or related field
5+ years of experience in internal communications, corporate communications, or a related field
Proven ability to develop and execute high-impact internal communications strategies for a large, complex organization
Strong writing and storytelling skills, with experience crafting executive messaging and internal campaigns that inspire and engage
Experience in issues management and crisis response, with the ability to navigate sensitive topics
Experience working with global teams and diverse workforces in a fast-paced, highly matrixed environment
Ability to work cross-functionally, influencing and collaborating with HR, legal, communications, and business leadership
COMPENSATION: The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant might be paid in accordance with applicable state laws. The compensation may not be representative for positions located outside of the California Bay Area.
The salary range for this role is $98,900 to $158,000. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
