GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

Provides facilities support to the Orange Campus. This position, under the direction of the Facilities Manager, performs general facilities related services to all groups and departments at the UNH Orange Campus. The Facilities Assistant is responsible for performing light maintenance & repairs, event set-ups and other related support work as assigned in support of all Orange Campus students, faculty, and staff.

CLASSIFICATION:    Essential, non-exempt

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide general maintenance and repairs of campus buildings and grounds as assigned by the Manager of Facilities.
  • Support University events (setup, breakdown, moves, etc.).
  • Respond to building emergencies and concerns during shift and after hours when needed.
  • Must be able to perform painting, minor carpentry repairs, minor plumbing work (drain cleaning, etc.), replace light bulbs, as well as other related tasks as directed.
  • Oversee the coordination of various vendors & contractors performing work on campus.
  • Perform routine building inspections and provide written documentation as required such as logbook entries and work order submissions.
  • Assist in the management of contracted services such as trash removal, grounds maintenance, snow removal and other work as assigned.
  • Regularly monitor and inspect building mechanical systems both physically and through the building management system (BMS) to assure systems are operating properly at all times.
  • The Facilities Assistant is deemed an essential employee and therefore, must be able to report to work if the University suspends normal operations and classes due to inclement weather.

 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • This position requires strenuous physical activity, including but not limited to walking, bending, standing, stretching, climbing stairs and ladders, and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

 

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent with formal trade skill training/experience.
  • The Facilities Assistant should have 3 years of working experience within the maintenance field with general knowledge in carpentry, plumbing, and building mechanics.
  • The Facilities Assistant must be able to quickly assess and resolve problems associated with daily facilities operations and services.
  • The ability to work independently and in a collaborative manner with others.
  • Ability to prioritize duties, with a strong focus on attention to detail and completing assignments and meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to work overtime.
  • A valid Connecticut Driver’s License.
  • A strong customer service orientation and ability to interact with a diverse constituency.
  • Ability to speak English and read work orders.
