Job Description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Mechanical design engineer responsible for all aspects of design, analysis, and evaluation of electromechanical components including connectors and flexible printed circuits, as well as various other mechanical components and assemblies for hard disk drives.
  • Design ownership throughout the entire development cycle, including the creation of solid models and drawings, tolerance analysis, hands-on design validation, reliability demonstration, data analysis, failure analysis, and rigorous design optimization to achieve superior performance and cost.
  • Work directly with suppliers, SQE, and internal Manufacturing teams and Procurement partners to ensure designs are robust, cost effective and optimized for high-volume manufacturing.
  • Work cross-functionally throughout the Development and Operations Teams to deliver world class solutions to demanding technical challenges.
  • Some international travel may be required.

Qualifications

REQUIRED

  • Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical and electromechanical component designs.
  • Must have board-to-board or other connector system design experience for PCBA and FCA applications.
  • Working knowledge of high-volume manufacturing methods such as plastic injection molding, sheet metal stamping and metal forming, flexible printed circuit fabrication and assembly processes, connector assemblies, and component fabrication tooling requirements.
  • Hands-on experience performing tolerance analyses, DFM reviews, component testing using basic test instrumentation, reliability validation, and failure analyses.
  • Solid fundamental mechanical and electromechanical design engineering skills with experience using 3D CAD software and analysis tools.
  • Project or work experience demonstrating technical capability in areas of mechanical design, basic finite element analysis (FEA), tolerance stack-up analysis, and knowledge of various engineering materials.
