Wheels Up is looking for a world-class Sr. Data Science Engineer to join our team of dedicated and passionate professionals, fueled by the most powerful brand in private aviation, as we continue our mission of democratizing the private aviation space through cutting-edge technology and innovative product and service offerings.
The Sr. Data Science Engineer designing, building, and deploying machine learning models, creating scalable data pipelines, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to solve complex challenges.

Responsibilities
- Designs, builds and maintains resilient data applications in Python and NodeJS
- Manages and optimizes the deployment of containers in Kubernetes on Azure
- Develops monitoring, alerting, and diagnostics systems, including Datadog alerts, events, and log monitoring, to ensure high-quality product delivery
- Maintains and improves existing Datadog logs, events, and alerts to enhance monitoring and diagnostics capabilities
- Collaborates with engineers, product managers, and data scientists to identify the needs on a cross-functional team and develop data-driven solutions
- Solves challenging data integration problems utilizing optimal ETL patterns, frameworks, query techniques, and sourcing from structured and unstructured data sources
- Optimizes pipelines, dashboards, frameworks, and systems to facilitate easier development of data artifacts Keep up to date with the latest Azure and Kubernetes features and best practices, and adopt them to optimize DSE software systems
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or a related field (Masters or Ph.D. preferred)
- Minimum five years of experience in developing scalable, resilient, data-intensive applications or a related role
- Extensive experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and container orchestration platform Kubernetes
- Ability to design, implement and maintain cloud-based architectures using Kubernetes on Azure
- Strong programming experience in production environments using Python, SQL (and preferably JavaScript)
While the role of a Sr. Data Science Engineer primarily involves working in an office or remote environment, the following physical requirements may apply:
- Ability to remain seated for extended periods while working at a computer
- Proficient use of a computer, keyboard, and mouse for prolonged periods
- Clear visual focus to read screens, analyze data, and review code
- Ability to communicate effectively in person, over video calls, or via email/chat
- Occasional verbal presentations to teams or stakeholders
- Minimal physical activity is required, though occasional movement to attend meetings or adjust workspace setup might occur
- Possible travel to attend conferences, collaborate with teams, or meet clients (depending on the role specifics)
