Job Description
Sr Maintenance Technician-Packaging
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Maintenance & Troubleshooting
- Perform advanced troubleshooting on:
- Vial packaging lines (labelers, cartoners, tray loaders, case packers, serialization systems)
- Solid dose equipment (feeders, fillers, cappers, conveyors, inspection systems)
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and control system issues (PLC/HMI interface awareness)
- Execute corrective and emergency maintenance with minimal impact to production
- Lead root cause analysis (RCA) for recurring failures
Preventive & Predictive Maintenance
- Execute and optimize PM programs to improve uptime and reduce breakdowns
- Identify PM gaps and implement condition-based maintenance where applicable
- Utilize CMMS (e.g., Blue Mountain BMRAM) for:
- Work order documentation
- Asset history tracking
- PM optimization
Reliability & Continuous Improvement
- Drive equipment reliability improvements using:
- Failure trend analysis
- MTBF/MTTR data
- A3 problem-solving methodology
- Partner with Engineering to implement equipment upgrades and modifications
- Identify and implement OE (Operational Excellence) cost savings opportunities
Production Support
- Provide real-time floor support during operations
- Own equipment performance during shift (rapid response mindset)
- Ensure effective pass-down communication between shifts:
- Include equipment status
- Downtime events and impact to production
Compliance & Documentation (cGMP)
- Ensure all work is performed in compliance with:
- cGMP
- SOPs and safety procedures (LOTO, etc.)
- Complete accurate, audit-ready documentation:
- Work orders
- Deviations and CAPAs support
- Support inspections and audits as SME for packaging equipment
Leadership & Mentorship
- Act as technical lead on shift
- Train and mentor junior technicians
- Reinforce best practices in troubleshooting and maintenance execution
- Promote strong safety and quality culture
Basic Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent (Technical certification preferred)
- At least 6 years of maintenance experience in:
- Pharmaceutical, biotech, or regulated manufacturing
- Strong hands-on experience with:
- Packaging equipment (labelers, cartoners, conveyors)
- Solid dose or similar high-speed automation systems
- Ability to read and interpret:
- Electrical schematics
- Mechanical drawings
- Experience with CMMS systems
