The Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures at The Ohio State University invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor or Early Career Associate Professor in Korean literary studies for the Dr. Chris Lee Endowed Professorship. Applicants should have a specialization in Korean literary studies and have research expertise in at least one of the following areas: pre-modern literature, modern literature, or comparative literature. While the primary focus of this position is literary studies, we are interested in applications from candidates with a demonstrated interest in film studies. Applicants with additional interests in interdisciplinary areas beyond literary studies, such as media studies, digital humanities, the history of the book, and Korean diaspora studies, are also encouraged to apply.
Performance Objectives
The position involves teaching undergraduate and graduate-level courses in Korean literature (pre-modern and/or modern literature) and other interdisciplinary areas related to their scholarship. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of a graduate degree program in Korean Studies and the department’s offerings in East Asian humanities.
Education and Experience Requirements
Required: Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Korean literary studies or a related field by August 15, 2025. ABDs are welcome to apply. Native or near-native fluency in English and Korean is required.
Desired: Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to building a diverse intellectual community, in line with OSU’s Shared Values (see below).
Tenure faculty (regardless of rank) - persons with the titles of professor, associate professor, assistant professor and instructor who serve on appointments totaling 50% or more service to the university and who are eligible for tenure or who have obtained tenure. Duties and responsibilities are assigned in accordance with the workload guidelines laid out in the pattern of administration of each faculty member’s tenure initiation unit (TIU) and, as appropriate, regional campus; obligations will include research, service and/or teaching or clinical practice. These faculty will have earned doctorate or other terminal degree in the relevant field of study or possession of equivalent experience.
