Hybrid Role: Must be able to come on-site periodically and reside a commutable distance from the assigned work location.

Emergency Response: Yes – Must be available to perform a primary assignment in support of DTE’s emergency response to storms or other events that impact service to our customers.

Job Summary

As the key liaison between the HR Department and assigned to DTE Energy business units, works collaboratively with business unit and HR Department leaders. Staffs to drive achievement of business unit strategies, goals, objectives, and key business initiatives through the delivery of strategic, tactical and administrative human resources services. Is assigned to smaller, less complex business units and will draw on management and senior level HR professionals to assist, as needed. This position plays a critical role in aligning HR initiatives with business goals, fostering a positive organizational culture, and driving employee engagement and retention efforts. Additionally, manages part-time recruiting efforts, including developing job descriptions, posting job openings, screening candidates, and coordinating with hiring managers to ensure a smooth and efficient hiring process for engineering openings.


This role requires the individual to be onsite at DTE Headquarters in downtown Detroit three (3) days a week.

Key Accountabilities

  • Proactively assesses the human resources implications of the business unit’s strategies, goals and objectives, key business initiatives and operational model. Effectively communicates and creates mutual understanding of those implications to business unit leadership.
  • Works collaboratively with business unit and the Client Relations Team, HR subject matter experts, and other HR staff to create plans to address business needs and executes against plans to deliver workforce and talent planning,   staffing, compensation and benefits, employee and labor relations, affirmative action,  development, performance management, and other solutions that address the human resources implications of and are aligned with the business unit’s strategies, goals and objectives, key business initiatives and operational model.
  • Ensures that statutory, regulatory, ethical, contractual and policy compliance are consistent with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations, enterprise values and code of conduct, collective bargaining agreements and human resources policies and procedures.
  • Develops and has working knowledge of DTE Energy’s mission, vision, values, competitive environment and key strategies that create market advantage, including, specifically, how the enterprise achieves its’ objectives and the business language of the enterprise. 
  • Develops and has working knowledge of the assigned business unit’s competitive environment, strategies, goals and objectives, key business initiatives and operational model that creates competitive market advantage, including, specifically, how the business unit makes money and the business language of the business.
  • Advises and coaches business unit on appropriate use of the HR service delivery model and the HR policy and guidelines.
  • Advises and coaches leaders and employees through employee related matters.
  • Solicits guidance and advise from senior team members as needed to ensure that appropriate actions are taken, and recommendations are made in accordance with DTE policy and business unit needs.
