The Sr. Scientist, Oligonucleotide Chemistry Development, is responsible for optimization of automated synthesis, purification and formulation of oligonucleotides for PCR applications. The ideal candidate will have expertise in oligonucleotide process development and manufacturing. The role requires planning, executing laboratory experimentation and writing process documentation.
This position is part of the Chemistry R&D Department and will be located in Bothell, Washington. At Cepheid, our vision is to be the leading provider of seamlessly connected diagnostic solutions.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
- Serve internal customers with R&D grade oligonucleotides: accept orders, plan, synthesize, purify, analyze, provide COA and ship.
- Develop and improve processes for efficient processing and formulation of oligonucleotides, draft SOPs, mentor and train junior associates.
- Draft and review reports, protocols, etc. using product life cycle management software and/or electronic document management systems (e.g. Agile, Documentum, etc.). Maintain accurate notebooks and other electronic record keeping in accordance with FDA and international regulations (e.g., 21 CFR 820, ISO 13485) in support of Cepheid’s product development process.
The essential requirements of the job include:
- Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of related work experience OR Master’s degree in field with 3+ years of related work experience OR Doctoral degree in field with 0-2 years of work experience in Chemistry, Biochemistry or other related fields
- Fundamental knowledge of organic chemistry and analytical chemistry techniques, proficiency with analytical instruments: HPLC, UHPLC, LC-MS, UV-Vis
- Synthesis, purification, characterization, and formulation of oligonucleotides, maintenance and troubleshooting laboratory equipment.
- Familiarity with cGMP work environment and documentation requirements; sound knowledge of laboratory safety and biosafety practices, adherence to all chemical and lab safety regulations
- Occasional sliding shift work schedule may be required.
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
- Operation of automated solid phase synthesis platform (MerMade, AKTA, etc) for DNA, RNA or peptide products
- Working in a highly productive team environment as an effective team player, understanding priorities and work to provide support to the team to realize long and short-term goals

The salary range OR the hourly range for this role is $90,000 to $123,000. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.
This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
