IT Security Engineer

R1 is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Network Security Engineer to lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of robust security solutions that protect our organization's network infrastructure. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of network security technologies, hands-on experience with firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, VPNs, and a strong understanding of current cybersecurity threats and mitigation strategies. They will be an integral part of the R1 Security team, demonstrating responsiveness, excellent communication skills, teamwork, a consensus-building approach, a passion for learning, and outstanding problem-solving abilities.
Qualifications:
Experience: 10 to 15+ years in network security engineering with extensive hands-on experience with firewall technologies, including Palo Alto and Cisco Firepower & ASA firewalls. Proficiency in managing VPNs, IDS/IPS, and experience with cloud service providers such as Microsoft Azure and AWS.
Education/Certification Preferences: Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related discipline, or equivalent work experience. Preferred certifications include Palo Alto PCNSE and CCNP Security.
Technical & Soft Skills: Comprehensive knowledge of firewalls & intrusion detection/prevention systems, TCP/IP protocols, routing, and subnetting. Proficient in scripting and automation tools (e.g., Python, PowerShell). Strong problem-solving, analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to manage multiple issues and lead security solutions.
Responsibilities:
Design and implement secure network architectures for on-premises and cloud environments.
Develop and enforce network security policies, standards, and best practices.
Engineer and support corporate and global firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, cloud security, and VPNs.
Conduct regular reviews and updates of security system rules and configurations.
Investigate and respond promptly to security breaches or incidents.
Resolve daily incident and service requests related to network security.
Perform system hardening, patching, and updating of network security components.
Create and update documentation of network security systems.
Establish and manage relationships with Security Vendors and Managed Service Providers.
Provide on-call technical support for network security-related issues.
Collaborate with IT, DevOps, and other departments to ensure security is embedded across systems.
