This attorney position will help fuel Casey’s growth by supporting and advising the Casey’s Real Estate, Business Development, and Construction Teams.  In this role, you will work with business leaders to provide legal guidance, recommendations, and advice on all matters related to the purchase, lease, sale, investigation, permitting, and construction of Casey’s convenience stores.  

What You’ll Do

  • Build trusted relationships across all levels and departments throughout Casey’s to ensure legal compliance and support business objectives.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate real estate contracts and agreements, including purchase and sale agreements, leases, easements, and construction documents.
  • Conduct due diligence for real estate transactions, including title review, survey analysis, and environmental assessments.
  • Manage and resolve real estate disputes and litigation, including landlord-tenant issues, zoning and land use disputes, and construction claims.
  • Review and negotiate condemnation and eminent domain matters.    
  • Assist in the preparation and submission of applications for zoning changes, variances, and other land use approvals.
  • Manage outside counsel as necessary.
  • Identify, develop and implement best practices and improvements to the contracting and development approval processes.

Compensation

Starting pay range:‏‏‎ ‎$100,000‎ - $140,000. Actual pay may vary based on Casey’s assessment of the candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities (KSAs), related experience, education, and qualifications. Other factors impacting pay include local prevailing wages and internal equity. This position is eligible for an annual cash bonus based on company performance and an annual equity grant in the form of Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). Our full salary range for this role does extend beyond the hiring range listed, allowing team members the opportunity to continue to grow within the company.

 

Qualifications
  • J. D. from an ABA-accredited law school and membership in good standing in at least one US jurisdiction.
  • Minimum 2-5 years of real estate legal experience with significant contract drafting, and survey and title review practice. Experience with review of title insurance commitments preferred. 
  • Ability to proactively collaborate with business leaders to find solutions that meet company goals while minimizing risk.
  • Experience working directly with clients, whether in house or at a law firm.
