Applied Technology Services (ATS) provides technology-based, innovative, high-value engineering services to the PG&E enterprise. The staff consists of a multidisciplinary team of over 130 engineers, scientists, and technicians. The services include field operations, engineering, analysis, and laboratory testing at our fully equipped facility in San Ramon. Our vision is to be a forward-thinking, technological leader providing high-value solutions and services to all PG&E to safely and reliably deliver affordable and clean energy. The Infrastructure Asset Engineering department of ATS performs asset monitoring, condition assessments, engineering analysis and complex inspections on PG&E assets such as gas transmission pipelines, and hydro/fossil/nuclear generation power plants and related structures, systems and components.
Position Summary
The Manager of the ATS (Applied Technology Services) Infrastructure Asset Engineering Department directs the work of engineering and technical staff from the Welding and 3D Technology, Non-Destructive Testing and Mechanical Engineering and Numerical Analysis Units to support PG&E internal clients. Major internal clients include Gas Operations, Hydro and Fossil Generation and Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant. He/She works with the Unit Supervisors and supports the strategic planning function for the Infrastructure Asset Engineering department, such as forecasting and budgeting, evaluating potential projects and technologies, developing and acquiring new talent, and allocating resources. They provide technical leadership to the different Units, ensure client satisfaction is maintained at all times, review and approve technical reports, and identify and evaluate new technology for utilization on client projects based on technological advances and the needs of the client. They also promote and exemplify safety and quality culture, ensuring adherence to all company and regulatory safety and quality policies and procedures.
PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.
A reasonable salary range is:
Min – 155,000
Max – 265,000
Responsibilities
- Manages the Infrastructure Asset Engineering department consisting of multiple, cross disciplinary teams (units). This includes Welding and 3D Technology, Non-Destructive Testing, Mechanical Engineering and Numerical Analysis. Also develops short- and long-term plans for section to meet financial goals related to ATS’s and PG&E’s True North Strategy.
- Directly supervises the Welding and 3D Technology Unit consisting of 10 Engineers and Technicians.
- Oversees and coaches the Unit supervisor staff to ensure customer, quality, environmental, safety and regulatory objectives are achieved for the section. Ensures all staff understand and adhere to PG&E and ATS policies and procedures and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Understands, considers, and anticipates client needs. Ensures client needs and expectations are met with current and future services and projects.
- Leads the client relationships. Interfaces with senior leaders (Directors and above) in client groups regarding project status, quality and performance of work, and process improvements. Inform clients of new programs or services to provide more value.
- Collaborates with peer ATS Managers and ATS Director in developing section and department performance metrics and forecasts. Regularly presents section performance results to Director.
- Stays current on new technologies in the industry. Reviews and considers recommendations from staff for new projects, services, or technologies. Explores and approves projects and/or services to pursue according to achieve forecasts and long-term plans.
