ASARCO LLC is a subsidiary of one of the world’s largest Copper producers Grupo Mexico and ranks third in the United States in Copper production. ASARCO LLC is a fully integrated miner, smelter, and refinery of copper in the United States with over 2,800 employees spanning 4 mine sites in Arizona. 

Location: 

ASARCO Ray mining operation, a 250,000 TPD hard rock open pit copper mine located 64 miles southeast between Phoenix and 70 miles northeast Tucson, Arizona.

We are looking for motivated students with a strong interest in the mining industry. Our internship program is 10 weeks long, in which you will receive important industry training and get involved in meaningful real-world projects like planning a program, designing a process, or implementing technology. The culmination of your program will include an opportunity to present your work to management. 

Duties:  

• Assist with general material handling  
• Assist with milling operations  
• Assist with oxide and sulfide leaching operations  
• Assist with solution extraction and electro-winning operations  
• Assist with lab operations to include flotation reagent testing
• Assist with process mapping  
• Assist with maximizing grade and recovery  
• Evaluate regrind circuits  
• Evaluate ball mill cyclone optimization  
• Assist with other metallurgical projects as assigned

Qualifications

Position Requirements:  

• Requires excellent communication skills, both verbal and written  
• Requires excellent organizational and interpersonal abilities  
• Our offer will require at least a ten-week internship commitment between mid-May and mid-August.  

Education Requirements:  

• Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university on a full-time basis  
• Must be a Sophomore, Junior, Senior, or Graduate level  
• Must be majoring in Metallurgical Engineering, Mine Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Mineral Processing, or closely related Engineering discipline  

Knowledge & Skill Requirements:  

• Excellent organizational and interpersonal abilities.  
• Time management skills in performing multiple projects with various team members.  
• Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively present findings and make recommendations.  
• Proficient with Microsoft Office products  

Experience Required: No previous experience required. 

Physical Requirements / Working Conditions: 
Frequent sitting, standing, walking and some exposure to dust, noise, and extreme temperatures* (*not for all majors)
