Humana’s Corporate Communications team is looking for an experienced External Corporate Communications and Media Relations Lead to join the team in Washington D.C.. This team is responsible for monitoring, managing, and effectively communicating in support of Humana’s strategic business priorities. The Corporate Communications team works closely with the government relations (state and federal) team in supporting key public affairs priorities and is critical in promoting and protecting Humana’s reputation, advancing key policy priorities, and engaging with journalists, health influencers, and opinion leaders.

This is a hybrid role that will require you to reside in D.C. and be in the office at least 3 days a week depending on business needs.

               

As the Corporate Communications Lead, you will work on the development and execution of all advocacy campaigns and communication priorities in service of Humana’s corporate policy positions. You will work closely with the Corporate Affairs, Government Affairs, and Corporate Communications team to develop and orchestrate media and public relations activities and key communication initiatives for Humana at an enterprise and line of business level.

Key Role Functions

  • Assist with developing and executing key campaigns in support of Humana’s strategic business priorities

  • Provide strategic counsel to Humana executives/operators or key stakeholders on how public affairs can support/shape Humana’s strategic business priorities

  • Collaborate with Corporate Affairs and Corporate Communications team and internal stakeholders to plan and execute communication campaigns across multiple tactics, including grassroots outreach, digital advertising, broadcast, earned media, and 1:1 engagement

  • Develop relationships with Beltway media, trade organizations, and similar stakeholders 

  • Ongoing issue and crisis management

  • Provide leadership that combines a highly collaborative working style with a strategic vision and a critical eye for effective operations across the enterprise

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public policy, or relevant field

  • Located in Washington D.C.

  • 7+ years of relevant experience in public affairs, communications, or similar

  • Led and independently planned highly visible campaigns and execution on priority policy positions, industry issues, or strategic business priorities

  • Experience with ongoing issue and crisis management

  • Proactive and planned engagement with National Media, especially Beltway outlets

  • Self-directed and motivated, with a strong work ethic and high integrity

  • Experience working in Microsoft 360 including PowerPoint, Word, etc.

  • Ability to work under tight deadlines, multitask and deliver quality work under pressure

  • Exceptional written communications skills and depth of experience in public affairs 

  • Proactive, flexible, and always seeking improvement and positive change 

  • Demonstrated experience in using digital/social media to influence and engage

  • Strong planning and program management and ability to prioritize and effectively manage resources

  • Proven performance in achieving results through a team-focused approach

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in Medicare, Medicaid, and with CMS, HHS, or similar preferred
