Job Description

General Summary of Position Responsibility:        

Facilitates, promotes and models a leadership philosophy and style consistent with the Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago Medical Center leadership statement.  Provides strategic and operational leadership for the following areas: Security, and Concierge.  Establishes, promotes and maintains Children’s Hospital of Chicago Medical Center security and protection programs on all campus and satellite locations.

Essential Job Functions:

Area Specific Job Accountabilities:

  • Directs the daily activities of the security and concierge staff including recruitment, orientation, coaching, corrective action and termination as required.

  • Develops, plans, implements, and manages security operations aimed at providing a safe and secure environment for patients, families, visitors, employees, and any guests of Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago Medical Center.

  • Establishes operational procedures for activities such as customer service excellence, quality assurance, and patient safety for the departments of security and concierge services.

  • Develops, plans, implements, and manages projects and processes that improve, and maintain, effective security operations.

  • Oversees management of enterprise-wide security-related equipment. e.g.: camera systems, alarms, access control, and keying systems for all sites. Also coordinates any necessary training and education for the equipment.

  • Maintains performance improvement activities within the departments and participates in quality activities.

  • Serves as liaison between Children’s Hospital of Chicago Medical Center, community leaders and local authorities such as law enforcement and fire department.

  • Provides leadership for, and actively participates in, investigations relative to accidents, thefts, injuries, or any other required situations.

  • Collaborates with Human Resources in the management of employee relations matters for staff within the department.

  • Directs the recruitment, hiring, and disciplinary action processes for the units assigned.

  • Develops and administers policies and procedures to accomplish department-specific and organizational initiatives.  Plans, develops and manages the operating and capital budgets of areas of responsibility.   Closely monitors monthly financial performance, responding to unfavorable variances appropriately. 

  • Assures compliance with all JCAHO, State, Federal and local regulatory laws, standards and protocols.

  • Develops and maintains security management programs for Children’s Hospital of Chicago Medical Center.

  • Provides new employee orientation, Infection Control, Security and Safety Training, Fire Safety, Infant Abduction, MSDS, Emergency Preparedness, and EMTALA Education Training.

  • Partners with Patient Care Support Services leaders to develop, oversee, and maintain operational budget for security and concierge services. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.  Master’s degree preferred.

  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience.

  • Certification in one of the following: International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS); Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator (CHPA); American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS); Certified Protection Professional (CPP).

  • Demonstrated understanding of applicable security best practices, procedures and related state, federal compliance requirements.

  • Must be able to manage in a fast paced and stressful environment.

  • Previous leadership experience preferred.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Excellent customer service skills.

  • Ability to exercise sound reasoning while maintaining a tactful demeanor in all dealings with patients,
