About the role

Description

Weavers Way Farms consists of two vegetable farms and an orchard. Our food goes to our 270-person CSA, Weavers Way stores, an on-site farm market, and other outlets in the community.

These are two of our four field assistant positions working at Henry Got Crops alongside the  Farm Manager and Assistant Farm Manager. This is a 24-30 hr position working seasonally from  May until October, when our 24-week CSA begins and ends.

Expect everything from transplanting, weeding, and lots of harvesting in a quick-paced,  community-focused environment with a dedicated field crew. We also work closely with volunteer cooperators and high school students to support their engagement on the farm.

Purpose: To assist in daily farm operations in a team, independently, and while guiding cooperators, students, and volunteers. Ideal for individuals with some farming experience looking to develop their skills in a community-centered setting.

Hours:

Hours and days are dictated by the ebbs and flows of the season, varying slightly in slower or  busier seasons. Additionally, rest is essential to enduring the long farming season and we  encourage staff taking planned time off as needed.

  •  5 days per week, averaging 24-30 hours
  •  Monday or Thursday: 8-9 hour harvest day
  •  All other days (M-F): 4-5-hour field/harvest shifts

Days typically begin at 7 or 8 am, with occasional earlier days for heat with notice. Weekend  work possible for special events or harvesting may be scheduled with advance notice.

Compensation/Benefits:

This is an hourly paid position, starting at $17/hr. Farm staff are welcome to have produce from  the farms, and receive a staff discount and working member discount of 15% at Weavers Way  Coop and our own Farm Market. All hours worked over 40 hours/week are straight pay, not  subject to overtime rate, unless the assistant engages in “non-agricultural labor” such as  working at the farm market.
