Job Description:

This is a highly technical position responsible for the repair maintenance, modification, and installation of all the high voltage underground/overhead electrical distribution systems and security and street lighting on the LSU-Baton Rouge campus and all ancillary campus locations, to include St. Gabriel and Ben Hur agricultural centers. The electrical distribution system consists of a 4160 V system is made up 78 feeders, 17 mtles of underground duct bank, and more than 358 transformers. The 13.8 V system contains 53 feeders, over 10 miles of underground duct bank, and more than 60 transformers.

 

Job Responsibilities

40% - Supervises and assists with the maintenance, repair, and replacement of the campus electrical 4160V and 13.8kV distribution systems. This includes ordering materials, troubleshooting, scheduling outages, equipment coordination, etc.

 

20% - Apply the necessary technical skills and system knowledge to troubleshoot electrical failures and provide and execute solutions aimed al eliminating lhe root cause of those proble.

 

20% - Supervises and assists with the maintenance, repair, and replacement of street and security lighting systems throughout campus. This system consists of over 4000 light fixtures. This includes ordering materials, troubleshooting, scheduling outages, equipment coordination, etc.

 

10% - Coordinates the preventative maintenance program for the high voltage switch gear, transformers, sectionalizers, etc. This program is paramount in ensuring the sage and reliable operation of the electrical systems on campus.

 

10% - Coordinates project construction Installation work with contractors to provide continuous operational services and functions for campus buildings. This position assists Electrical Development Engineer and Director of Electrical Systems with the development of future plans for the upgrading and replace of electrical systems to maintain required standards. Other duties as assigned.

 

Special and Physical Requirements

This position requires a valid driver's license, will require an MVR, and is subject to drug screens per PM-33/PS-67/FASOP HR-04.

 

This position is classified as a safety and security-sensitive position. These positions are subject to drug screens per PS-67/FASOP HR-04.

 

Ability to work in all weather conditions. In accordance with University Policy Statement 18, this position is considered essential and may be required to report or stay on campus in the event of an emergency or closure. 

 

This position will require a physical evaluation based on the physical demands required for the position.

Minimum Qualifications

Two years of the required experience for the following minimum qualifications must have been on-the-job experience:

Four years of experience in the building construction trades; maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment; building construction; building maintenance; or construction, maintenance, or repair of roads or bridges; OR

Completion of a two-year vocational technical program in general building construction, construction technology, or engineering plus two years of experience in the building construction trades; maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment; building construction; building maintenance; or construction, maintenance, or repair of roads or bridges; OR

Twelve semester hours in construction management, construction technology, engineering, or any combination of these courses plus two years of experience in the building construction trades; maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment; building construction; building maintenance; or construction, maintenance, or repair of roads or bridges.

 

Minimum Certifications/Licenses

Valid Driver's License
