What we need:

The Associate Director of Pharmacy Underwriting will be responsible for the overall management of the Pharmacy Underwriting Team. The leader will be required to inspire, motivate, and direct a team of three underwriters to profitably grow and retain accounts. In scope of the position is pharmacy representation within Underwriting Leadership meetings and projects in support of divisional goals. The leader will also act as an interdepartmental and cross-functional liaison in alignment with strategic vision and BCBSMA organizational objectives.

Your day to day:

In this role, you'll provide both strategic direction and day to day team guidance to maintain expert underwriting support and meet the needs of the organization. This includes pharmacy quoting and RFP completion, ensuring timely turnaround times and deadlines are met while also fostering an environment that rewards creativity and encourages thoughtful risk-taking.

You'll also act as a liaison between:

  • Underwriting and Pharmacy Sales teams representing Underwriting in strategy and implementation efforts.

  • Underwriting and our PBM developing working relationships that drive partnership and accountability.

  • Underwriting and Actuarial to develop and implement ASC Pharmacy Pricing Strategies.

  • Master complex components of pharmacy pricing being able to articulate competitive differences of BCBSMA and competitor proposals to internal and external audiences. This includes the development of creative pricing strategies which achieve team profitability, revenue and membership targets. Manages pharmacy tracking and settlement processes and report results to leadership. Partners with Pharmacy, Sales, Actuarial, and Reporting to enhance and support corporate initiatives, processes, and procedures along with achieving business objectives.

We’re looking for:

  • Someone who demonstrates a high level of motivation with a strong record of professional accomplishment and leadership, including proven experience of handling issue escalation and prioritization of processes.

  • The ability to communicate (both orally and in writing) at all levels within the organization using tact and diplomacy.

What you bring:

  • Minimum of 10 years underwriting, Pharmacy or related experience is required. PBM experience is a plus.

  • Five years of management experience required.

  • Required extensive knowledge of Pharmacy programs, health benefit programs and financial arrangements from both a risk and cash flow aspect.

  • An Undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university is required; a Masters degree highly desirable.

  • Must possess superior oral and written communication skills with the ability to present information to a variety of audiences.

  • Ability to work in a fast paced, high-volume environment.
